What's with the GAS?

Is the gas everyone talks about from anesthesia? Or, is it just a natural condition from not eating, digesting, etc?

Isn't the anesthesia administered with drugs through the IV?

What's with the GAS?

I think it's from the CO2 that is used to inflate your abdomen so that the docs can see what they are doing, especially when it's done laparoscopicly.

What's with the GAS?

There are a couple kinds of gas...don't know which you are referring to and I believe it depends on what procedure you had done.

First, if you had laproscopic surgery, they fill you with a gas to make room for working. This is felt mostly in the shoulder/neck area for a few days and feels like a badly pulled muscle, but also some bloating in the abdominal area.

If you are talking about general gas, some comes from anethestic and lots comes from the pain meds (Percocet, Darvocet, Vicoden) because they can constipate you and you know what that means....more gas.

Taking short walks will alleviate some of it and the rest kind of goes away over a period of time. To me, this was the most uncomfortable of the pains, but as long as you are "passing the gas", it means your system is working...just slower. I finally just gave up on the meds to get myself moving again.

What's with the GAS?

Thanks for the replies.
My surgery is scheduled for Aug. 18. (Vag/hys with a and p repairs.) I guess now I understand that it's the lap surgeries that have the gas pumped into them. I will talk with doctors this week.
