Vitamins/Supplements Suggestions Before TAH?

Hi all,

My TAH is scheduled for July 22. Does anyone have recommendations on vitamins or supplements I should be taking prior to the surgery to help ensure that I'm in tip-top shape?

I currently take B Complex, Vit E, Flaxseed Oil, and Vit C.

Also, any hints on natural rememdies to help with sleeplesness due to nervousness for the upcoming surgery?

Sounds like you're set on your vitamins, but be aware that you may be asked to stop taking ALL of your vitamins and supplements 1-2 weeks before surgery.

I am a big vitamin and supplement user and was asked to stop 1 week before surgery. Some of the vitamins and supplements can interfere with anethesia and medications.

However, after surgery I found that Bio-rutin, Bromelian, and Arnica helped tremendously with post surgical healing. I'm back to work part time after 5 weeks!!! Now this worked for me, personally, and I consulted with a professional and my doctor before starting these supplements.

The gyno/surgeon I saw for the first time last Friday mentioned the prescription Metanx for after surgery to help with healing. He said it's given to diabetic patients for healing, so why not for this. kwim?
Actually I'm taking it right now along with Chromagen for my anemia. The Metanx is mainly folic acid and B-vitamins. You might ask your dr about it for post-op healing.

My neighbor is getting a TAB one week after mine (I've sent her the HysterSister book and she loves it!!). Her doc actually mentioned melitonin as a sleep aid. He also indicated that he really didn't want her to take it though prior to surgery but afterwards, it would be fine. Sounds like he wants her only on her minimum meds prior to surgery.
