Scared of Incision not healing.

I'm a big girl with a big belly. I'm worried that my incision wont heal because I have belly hang. Some friends has told me to tell my dr to do a tummy tuck, but it already seems like the abdominal surgery to remove all of my parts that makes me woman would be more than enough.

Also, I sleep funny, I'm not happy unless I'm kind of on my side and my belly. Any suggestions on how I'm going to pull this one off.

Beginning to think I should have started preparing sooner than this. I do have a bad with a belly pillow in it and plenty of soft comfy pants and gowns.

Thanks in advance for any advice and suggestions

Re: Scared of Incision not healing.

Just got released today from total abdominal hysterectomy yesterday afternoon. My doc gave me a binder. I like to sleep on my side and was a little uncomfortable. I will see how that works! Good luck to you!

Hi danac to HysterSisters!

I am sorry you have to have a hysterectomy, but glad you found this site.

I would think that your incision will heal just fine, no matter what your tummy size. It is not unusual for fluffy ladies to have abdominal surgery.

I am also a side sleeper - never could sleep anyway else. I did fine without a problem, but did use a pillow over my abdomen to protect against cat visits. You can ask your doctor if he or she would recommend a binder, or if just pillow support would do. I did not use a binder myself, but some women swear by them.

Re: Scared of Incision not healing.

I have belly hang and I also sleep kinda on my side/ kinda on my stomach.
1) my incision is under my belly hang. Be careful and make sure it stays dry. I showered the first week then got a no shower order because it wasn't healing. Two weeks of no showers and using a blow dryer on low to help dry the oozing it healed nicely.
2) I slept on my side the first few days then gradually went from my side to my normal belly/side sleeping. You will know when, it will feel natural. Now I start on my belly and move to my belly/side position.

Best of luck to you.

Re: Scared of Incision not healing.

Hi Danae, I am checking in. I was able to sleep on my left both sides last night, but the left was more comfortable than the right. I tried sleeping with the binder but did not like it. It was wonderful for the home though. I didn't need a pillow under my tummy. But, tonight I will ask my DH to sort of prop my back up to keep me more on my side.
