Re: Driving restrictions
It depends upon the surgery type. Mine was vaginally, and they told me when I was off narcotic pain pills. With that said, I drove the beginning of the 2nd week with that said I do not advise it. Everything makes you tired! Let someone else do the driving, be pampered but most importantly, heal!

Re: Driving restrictions
You need to ask your doctor that because if you drive without your doctor's release, and you get into an accident, some insurance companies will not cover you. That being said, the general rule of thumb is to be off all narcotics and that you are able to turn around to look behind you and be able to stomp on the brake.
My doctor simply told me to stay out of cars. He didn't want me in a car, never mind driving. He had a patient get into an accident shortly after surgery and it was quite the mess to fix. So long story short, I was driving at about 4 weeks post-op. I did very few trips in the car before that (following doctor's orders).

Re: Driving restrictions
I had the da vinci laparoscopic hysterectomy and I was told 2 weeks, but only if I felt comfortable to do so. It's going to depend on how your recovery is going at that time. Just be sure to follow what your doctor tells you.

Re: Driving restrictions
I had TAH. I have to be off narcotics and at least 1 week post op.

Re: Driving restrictions
I drove to the park after my post and gave it thought.... Danni is right to really wait even though you can physically do it, I would hate to think if I did have to make a sharp movement what could happen.... I have only been making short drives to the store and this evening I will have a driver.

Re: Driving restrictions
My doctor said approximately 2 weeks but you should be off of narcotics and strong enough to stop suddenly if a small child ran out into the road. That put it in perspective for me.
