Re: Upcomimg hysterectomy: Soft bra after surgery?

Sort of depends on the weather and on your means of transport to the hospital. The day I had my hysteroscopy/D&C was a cold and rainy day at the tail end of winter. My procedure wasn't until the afternoon. Since I'd been told nothing to eat or drink after midnight, I couldn't even have a cup of hot water, let alone a cup of tea.

I couldn't get warm and pulled on layer after layers of shirts and sweaters. I had two pairs of woolen socks on my feet. When the time came to walk to the bus stop to catch the bus to the hospital, I pulled on a pair of rubber boots and a parka over everything else I was already wearing.

When I got to the prep room, the nurse handed me these two small plastic bags "for your clothes and shoes." Then she actually looked at what I was wearing and said, "Never mind, just put your things in this locker here."

I took everything off except the socks. I couldn't bear to take off the socks. So I'm lying there on the gurney in a hospital gown and socks. Another nurse commented, "Oh! You're wearing two pairs of socks!" Then she seemed to "get it" that this might indicate I was a wee bit chilled, because if she asked if I wanted a warmed blanket. Yes, yes, yes!

Over the next several minutes, several other nurses came by with warmed blankets. I acquired this lovely cocoon and finally felt warm for the first time that day. Then it came time for my gurney to be wheeled to the OR. The OR team explained that they were going to transfer me from the gurney to the operating table.

I replied, "Do I have to leave my blankets behind?" They assured me that I could keep the blankets, so I was happy. I didn't care what they did, as long as I had my blanket cocoon. :-)

Re: Upcomimg hysterectomy: Soft bra after surgery?

Hahaha! It was 100 degrees the day I had mine so I just had flip flops, harem pants and a short-sleeved shirt on. After changing into the hospital gown and our own dressing gowns we were taken to the waiting room and given a "space blanket" which we were told we had to use as the surgeon wanted us kept warm. Once in the OR they took away the space blanket and covered us in blankets straight from the warmer and boy did we need them in the OR. I never realised just how cold they keep ORs. I'm pretty sure they even replaced the warm blankets before they woke is from the GA because I remember being so warm. After the surgery it was back into our clothes and back under the space blankets to wait for our escorts home. Got to keep the space blanket as well.

Bair Paws! That's the name of the sytem that does not. I had that, not for the hysteroscopy/D&C I described, but for my hysterectomy (at a different hospital). It was great!

Re: Upcomimg hysterectomy: Soft bra after surgery?

I took a sports bra. Something very soft and made for "light" activity. No underwires even though I need them in my regular bras. I was just at the hospital overnight. I couldn't get it on as long as my IV was in, but I put it on a soon as the IV was out, about 3 hours before I went home. I'm pretty sure if I had a multi-day stay I could have convinced my nurse to disconnect my IV bag long enough to change.
