Told today I need the Davinci Hysterectomy

I have had the endo ablation over a year ago for heavy bleeding, and it worked. However, since April this year, I started having alot of pain and pressure in my pelvic area. My physician didn't know what it was. My gyno did an internal ultrasound, and found a cyst, but wanted me to wait til' today to do another ultrasound. In the meantime, I saw 2 Urologists who didn't know what the problem was. So, I had my 2nd ultrasound today, and my gyno (who I trust completely), suggested I consider getting the Davinci hysterectomy, but leave my ovaries.

I guess I'm just scared because I didn't realize that having cysts on ovaries would cause these symptoms, or be cause for a hysterectomy (I'm 40 by the way). Anyone have any advice?

I can't help you in respect to the cysts being a cause for a hyst. But I have had the DaVinci twice! I think it is a great way to go as far as surgery. Good luck!

what is the medical reason your dr is suggesting a hysterectomy? if your pain/pressure is from an ovarian cyst, why not just removed the cyst and/or ovary?

That's one of my questions I have down to ask the doctor on the 27th. The way she described it to me is that the cysts are like pimples that really hurt, but can't be popped and that's causing the pelvic pain. I'm just wondering if there are other women out there who have had to have this procedure done due to these reasons.

Why did you have the davinci twice?

I would be asking the dr to explain her/his reasoning.
If the reason for pain is cyst on the ovary, taking out your uterus will not make the pain go away, since the ovaries will still be in.
A bit confused.

Sorry you had circumstances where you need this site but very glad you found us.

As others have said not certain why your doctor is recommending a hysterectomy for cysts. I can tell you really like your doctor but since hysterectomy is such a final thing I want to suggest you get a 2nd opinion before you go for the surgery.

Also to help you find other sisters who may have had similar experiences more easily I"m going to move your post to the Options forum. You've gotten good advice so far and hopefully you'll get even more there.

I didn't have the Davinci twice. I had the endo ablation done a little over a year ago. I did ask why they don't just remove the cyst, and she told me that the cysts move around and can get worse at this point. Having the cysts removed is also a surgery and can't guarantee that they won't come back. So, with the davinci and removing the uterus, he will look at my ovaries and take care of whatever he sees, and I shouldn't have any more cysts. I have an appt. with the doctor who is actually doing the surgery, next week, so I'm sure I'll have a better understanding why they want to go this route. I'm still scared though.
