bladder repair, rectocele

Anyone else having more than the hysterectomy? Does anyone know if recovery is different?

Re: bladder repair, rectocele

tambea,
Yes, lots of women here have repairs done along with their hysterectomy. Recovery time will likely be longer with additional repairs. You should ask your doctor if you will have additional restrictions post op.

Re: bladder repair, rectocele

i am having a similar surgery. hysterectomy with removal of cervix, uterus, tubes and hopes of leaving at least one ovary. I am getting rectocele and enterocele repaired with possible bladder repair. I am getting all this done on the da vinci. Are you? The recovery time for all surgeries on this is cut in half (according to the website lol)

I go tomorrow to talk with my dr(uro/gyn)/surgeon and he is going to answer all my questions. But I am guessing the recovery is going to be a little longer.

I am going to ask about bowel recovery too cause that is one of my big worries because I have diverticulosis and IBS since i was 26 and I am now 28. Do you have any preexisting bowl problems?

I hope everything goes well for you

Re: bladder repair, rectocele

Not that I was diagnosed with but I have wondered about IBS. I had a TVH with both ovaries removed but I am 46. They did do the bladder sling laproscopically. I am 9 days post op and I still have bad days and good days.
Make sure you use the stool softeners religiously. That was my biggest problem with the rectocele. I am still bleeding lightly but I think that is normal.
Good luck and I hope all goes well with your surgery. Oh, instead of general anesthesia I had s spinal plus verced and something else. I think it made recovery easier.

Re: bladder repair, rectocele

did you need to have anyone with you when you came home from the hospital and the days after or were you okay by yourself?

oh and thank you for the anesthesia info i will definitely ask about which kind of anesthesia, i didn't think about that

i hope your recovery continues to go well and you have more good days then bad

Re: bladder repair, rectocele

I was grateful that my husband was with me when I came home but the next day was tough when he went back to work(they wouldn't let him have it off). I slept alot but i was dizzy and weak and didn't end up eating or drinking all day which did not help. That is the benefit of having someone there those first days. It would also be a good idea to have someone close by the first time you shower. I was fine but I know others who were a bit unsteady on their feet.

Re: bladder repair, rectocele

I had TVH with cystocele and rectocele repairs on October 15. It has been tough, but today I feel as if I have turned the corner. Good luck to you! Recovery is longer, but only by a few weeks.

Re: bladder repair, rectocele

My Pre Op is tomorrow, and my surgery next week! I'm happy, scared and nervous! I'm 27 having TVH, bladder mesh, and cystocele and rectocele repairs done as well. From what I've read it does take a little longer recovery with the repairs plus slightly more pain. I have a 2 pg list of questions for doc tomorrow so hopefully I leave with answers and a non- irritated doctor LOL!

Re: bladder repair, rectocele

I had my second bowel today after having a vaginal hysterectomy and retocele repair on the 20th of November2012. Not only was it real painful. But my bleeding was bad. Is this normal?
