Did my bowel prep today
My doctor seems to do things differently. I had to do my bowel prep TWO days before surgery. I drank Magnesium Citrate. The bottle was 10 oz. but the adult dose said 6.5-10 oz. I really tried to drink all 10 but after I got through the 6.5 oz. of the stuff, I knew one more sip would make me throw up the entire thing so I stopped.
I ate a light breakfast and took the stuff at noon. It took 7 hours before it started to work. My doctor had said it would take 8 hours but I expected things sooner since so many people here posted about things starting in an hour!
I had about 15 "episodes" but it wasn't a ton at a time. My doctor wants me mostly empty but I don't think I have to "run clear." I am on a liquid diet for the rest of today and tomorrow. She did say I can have milkshakes and pudding - which at least will help with the hunger.
My stomach is rumbling big time and I have a headache from not eating.
I did get my period on Thursday and it has been torture to have terrible cramps and not be able to take Motrin! I am bleeding pretty heavy and all the bowel prep stuff doesn't help! I also did not want to go in to surgery with my period but at least the worst 4 days should be done by the Tuesday.
I need to get to the hospital by 5:30, surgery at 7:30 - should last a 1.5 hours (keeping my cervix but doing a Leep, keeping ovaries, uterus is going via LSH.) They told me probably 3 hours in recovery and I would go home! I hope it is that easy!
Good luck to everyone going in this week - keep us all posted as you "prepare" for the big day!

Did my bowel prep today
After all the posts I have read I'm giving my doc a big hug. I guess because she is doing a TVH I don't need a bowel prep. But now I'm worried, maybe I should do a little something. And why the heck can't we eat the entire day before surgery. What happened to nothing to eat or drink 12 hours before surgery? Wow this whole thing really stinks.
I can't eat anything for a whole day prior to surgery. I did ask if I could have toast, applesauce, crackers, etc and she said yes along with clear liquids. I know its for our own good.
I will look at the bright side. Nothing to eat the day before surgery, I won't want to eat the day of surgery and maybe one more day.... wonder how much weight I will lose? ha ha

Did my bowel prep today
Hi There, I feel for you - My girlfriend who just had a Radical Hysterectomy said hers kicked in about 1/2 hour after she did hers. I have to do mine the morning of the day before and then total liquid diet the rest if the day and no food after midnight.
I am not looking forward to the Bowel Prep part for sure, to top it all off MY period is suppose to start like the day before my surgery. Jeeze - I already said good ridden to the last one - I don't want to do it again!!!!
You kow the closer I get to "my" surgery the more empowered I feel as a woman (if that makes any sense). To be able to go through something of this magnitude and be able to have a whole network of other women to talk with and share feelings - what a blessing. Can you imagine a guy having to have his (well you know whats) removed?? No way - total babies and they would definitely not get online and share.
The older "I" get the stronger I am - because of the women around me - and I am proud to be a woman!! ( wow, did I just type that?? I think I will make that my signature!!)
This is the beginning of a new chapter mudkip, in the journey we call life and I want to wish you best wishes and pray that everything goes well!!!
Love from your HysterSister,
Noelaloha
