What tests did your doctor order pre-op (TLH)

I am having a total laparoscopic hysterectomy on june 3rd

I just received paper work for it and my doctor has not ordered any pre-op testing for me - no blood work, chest x-ray etc

For the diagnosis I had an ultra sound and a blood test.

Is this enough? What tests did your doctor order for you?

Re: What tests did your doctor order pre-op (TLH)

I'm having a TVH and all I had was bloodwork. They did ask a bunch of questions though, are you diabetic, do you have heart problems etc. Probably the answers to those would affect which tests were required.

My doctor ordered allergy testing done & told me to make an appointment with the hospital a week before for bloodwork.

Re: What tests did your doctor order pre-op (TLH)

I had a TLH March 1st and all I had to do was bloodwork and the hospital asked me A BUNCH of questions over and over. Bloodwork they need is blood type, and preg test (if in the child bearing years, yes even if you have had a tubal lol). Don't worry. The doctors have done the tests and decided to do the TLH, so most of the testing is done ... just bloodwork and questions after that.

Good Luck with your surgery and try not to worry. It's not as bad as some of the posts on here make it seem. Yes, everyone heals at their own rate, and some have complications that others dont ... just listen to your doctor and you will be fine.

Thanks for your replies.

The doctor did say that since I was otherwise healthy there was no need for any additional tests.

But still I am worried because it seems to be moving so fast, the doctors think its all routine but its really scary for me.

You are so right. I was feeling pretty confidant in my decision and my doctor but after reading the posts I am wondering if I made the right decision. Thankfully I have some time to think it over.

Re: What tests did your doctor order pre-op (TLH)

I am almost 4 weeks post op. I was scared to death before I went to the castle. I'm 29 and have a 5 yr old son and 6 yr old daughter. We live alone. Yeah, I was really scared lol. I know now that this is the best decision I have ever made! I'm still tired a lot but I would do it all over again. You will be in my thoughts and prayers ... again, don't worry, it will be better in the end.

Re: What tests did your doctor order pre-op (TLH)

am having a total laparoscopic hysterectomy on April 5th

I met my Surgeon and he asked me a LOT of questions from there sent me to the lab, he did also a physical exam, and i got blood work (Pregnancy test, blood count, etc etc.

additionally I will have another pre-op by my primary doctor but that it is only done 1 week or less before the surgery (to clear you for Surgery) so it has to be close to the actual date. so I think you might hear from them later for further testing.

Re: What tests did your doctor order pre-op (TLH)

Lavendar Stars has a good point.

My pre-op included blood work, a chest x-ray and an EKG but the surgeon said some of the test results are only valid for 30 days. Don't be surprised if you are asked to do more pre-op in May.

Keep busy and think positive as you wait. Best of luck with your surgery.

Re: What tests did your doctor order pre-op (TLH)

I went in for a pap and to ask why I am still bleeding after two years post novasure abalation and before he even touched me he said I was getting a hysteretomy. Then it was a pap and ultrasound and before I went home they had it for april 8th and even had the insurance done I have to go in on the 7th for blood work but thats it. He did say it was a partial until after the U/S then he said TAH?
