Re: Hysterectomy

I assume you have another ovarian cyst, right? If so, they could do just an oopherectomy and leave the uterus and cervix. If I were you, I would write down some questions to ask and if you're not comfortable with the answers you get, and maybe even if you are, get a 2nd opinion. I'd start with:
What would you recommend removing and why?
Are there other options than surgery?
What are the advantages and disadvantages to having surgery?
What type of surgery would you perform (laprascopic, vaginal, abdominal)?
How will this affect me hormonally?
What would recovery be like?

I'm sure there are other important questions you could ask, but that's a start. Don't be shy about asking and making decisions on your own behalf. It can be life-changing and you should be fully comfortable that it's the best decision for you.

Re: Hysterectomy

Hi and welcome You have come to a great place for information and support. As Cathy already suggested asking questions is such an important thing for you to do. Many of us get second and third opinions. Different doctors will sometimes recommend different surgeries based on their individual experiences and/or preferences.
In your case I think it is important to make sure there is no other alternatives prior to having a hysterectomy. Based on your age the removal of your ovaries is a radical treatment. You will also need to ask questions regarding surgical menopause and hormone replacement therapy. Questions to include wether the doctor/surgeon will be the one to help you establish hormone treatment and follow you or will you need to find another doctor.
It can seem a bit daunting at first but hang in there you will learn quickly and have a much better understanding of your options before you know it. Continue to post questions, use the google button to search this site, read the articles and learn as much as you can. You want to be able to make the best decision for your individual circumstances.
For additional opinions you may consider a fertility specialist. Whether or not your family is complete. They are highly skilled in treatment of gyn issues while preservation reproductive organs.
Good luck
