Fustrated with pain-surgery all for nothing?

I am 7 weeks post op from a tvh yesterday. I just can't seem to pretend everything is fine anymore. My husband doesn't want to deal with this anymore and I feel so alone. He expects me to be fine. I had my hyst so why am I still complaining? I feel as though I am gonna explode! I am still having pelvic pains that they tell me are related to ovulation. This is my second time ovulating since surgery. Did I make a mistake in having the surgery and leaving my ovaries intact? I have a lot of risk factors for osteoperosis and can't take hrt due to a history with dvt and pulmonary embolism. I've got pains so bad on the right side of my pelvis I can barely walk and a migraine to beat all. On top of that, I am out of pain meds until at least thurs assuming I can get my pcp to give them to me. My endo specialist keeps telling me this is normal and I should be lucky that I don't have pain and nausea all the time like I did before the surgery. Doesn't he understand that I realize that? And that I am grateful not to be in all that pain anymore? I don't understand why it is so unbelieveable to the doctors that I am in an amount of pain that tylenol can't touch and since I am deathly allergic to both asprin and ibuprofin I can't even try them. They seem to think I am a drug seeker because I ask for meds to deal with the ovulation pain and the migraines. I get imitrex for the migraines but I am scared to take it because the last time I did I looked and felt like my face was melting off. I don't think it should be a big deal to perscribe pain meds to someone to deal with three days every three weeks. I have no history of drug or alcohol abuse and I guess I just feel like ranting. Sorry!

Re: Fustrated with pain-surgery all for nothing?

You poor thing! In regards to the pain meds there was another thread about this called 'pain' where I also agreed that needing pain meds post op should not be the issue it seems to be. Sometimes I think it would be easy to obtain them if we WERE addicted! I have terrible pain on my right side also, but don't have to deal with migraines. I had also never considered ovulation pains? I had my hyst for endo and suspected adeno - everything came back clear so I have also wondered whether i did the right thing when I weigh up all the pain I'm going through now. I guess the difference is we now have a chance to heal and potentially live pain free, whereas pre op it was about masking the symptoms. I'm so sorry that your husband is not being supportive. they say if you youtube the procedure it gives people a fair idea of how much your body has been through. My gynae was really dismissive with me regarding my pain too and it's just the most frustrating feeling isn't it? - you sound like you need another doctor and some friends to come and take care of things and show your husband there's still a way to go. Please feel free to pm me anytime..sometimes its nice to just hear that you're not going mad.

Re: Fustrated with pain-surgery all for nothing?

HI - I can relate to this I am in the same situation. Also have pain on my right side and have ovulation pains and this nerve-racking backache. I have more pain now than before - before the op I only had the period pain that would last about a week in total but now it seems there is pain almost 24/7. I am also on pain medication but scared that the dr will think I am starting to get addicted.

Re: Fustrated with pain-surgery all for nothing?

doherb I also have lower right side pain and prior to my surgery horrible migraines each month. I have had one migraine post op; I also kept my ovaries. I am on the Vivelle Dot right now due to menopausal symptoms post op. Regarding the migraines...do you know what your triggers for them might be, other than your monthly cycles? I have to stay away from red wine, anything with aspertame (? spelling ?), anything with msg, and any type of aged cheese. I used to take Imitrex also until the cardiac arrest-type side effects became more than I can stand. I now take Maxalt, 10 mg, which dissolves on your tongue. It works really well for me, and has no gastric side effects. Regarding the right side pain, I had alot of work done on my right side during the surgery, and I have also found out a ligament was repaired on that side as well. My pain sometimes radiates down my groin on the right side and around my lower back. I do think alot of it has to do with positioning during surgery. I am waiting on clearance from my dr. to go back to my chiropractor for adjustments. I get alot of relief from them as I have had back issues for years due to a job that I did during my 20's and 30's that required lifting up to 75 pounds unassisted on a daily basis.

I feel bad that you are in so much pain, and are not getting the support you need right now to get through it. You are not even eight weeks post op!! And, people who have never suffered through a major migraine cannot possibly BEGIN to understand what they are like!! I can't take aspirin either, and my stomach won't tolerate much Motrin. Pain sucks, and people who have been fortunate enough to not deal with it daily cannot fully understand. Everyone heals differently. You are not alone in this!! Have you tried a heating pad to help you through til Thursday? Or, I have read some systers use cool packs. Sending you a warm , with wishes that you get some relief soon.

Re: Fustrated with pain-surgery all for nothing?

Sorry youre having a hard time; maybe time to try other "triptans" for your migraines; they are all a little different. Maybe have your husband go with you to vouch for your pain to the MD? it would give you another voice and him a way to be helpful to you. I don't think men have it in them to be caregivers/nurturers for long periods of time. take care; we're all here for you

Re: Fustrated with pain-surgery all for nothing?

My husband beleives that people shouldn't use pain meds so I don't know how much help he will be. He has been somewhat supportive so far but if I so much as mention that I am going to talk to my doctor about pain meds he probably won't even take me since I can't drive myself (I get halluctinations with the migraines and they are way too scary to even try a car). He beleives that since I am healed vaginally that I should be fine otherwise which unfortunatly is the case. My pcp is a female that has been with me to hell and back over the migraines so hopefully she will understand the ovulation issue since she hasn't dealt with my gyno issues other than doing my pre-surg physical. Fortunatly I have been lucky in the sense that I am now only having migraines with my cycles (so far) and not all the time like I did before my tvh.

Re: Fustrated with pain-surgery all for nothing?

by the way, they do put people on antihypertensives, (beta-blockers or calcium channel blockers) to prevent migrains and severity of migrains. not sure if you ever tried that but I am a long time migraine sufferer and it did help; i'd see your pcp soon and discuss. good luck.

Re: Fustrated with pain-surgery all for nothing?

I hate that people are having to deal with all this pain. As far as the migraines...I too take maxalt but in swallowing pill form. I find it helps greatly. Only small side effect that sorta makes my nerves "hypersensitive"...like hot water feels a bit hotter, etc.

I don't understand doctors that withhold pain meds when a patient is clearly in pain. I have fibromyalgia and take pain meds regularly and understand that docs must be so very careful and make sure they are not creating problems. HOWEVER...you just had major surgery...

Are you sure that there are no other issues causing the pain? Is it worth a second opinion....just hate to think about you in pain.

Hang in there sister...
