I am scared too!
I am scared about waking up and what I see and hear willfrighten me.
What do they do when you first wake up? Can you go to your room fairly quickly.
The unknown is certainly VERY scary. I am even thinking about calling the Dr to talk to me and explain everything all over again. I just saw him last Wednesday.
I will be glad when this is over.
OH - it does work to keep busy, cleaning, crafting , cooking etc. Exhausting but it keeps your mind off things.

I am scared too!
I woke up to some wonderful nurses. (and one that was kind of flighty). They were great. Never more than 2 inches away. Getting me ice chips. Trying to manage my pain. Explaining everything to me. Soft voices. They were at my beck and call.
I was held up in recovery for a few hours because of my breathing and getting my pain under control. I have asthma, worse than what I new, and came to not being able to breath. They were great though. Really right on top of things. Recovery was not scary for me at all, and I think you'll find that it's not scary when you wake up. Once they have your pain under control, they'll take you to your room.
Hope that helps..
Tara

I am scared too!
aaron1,
It's the not knowing that scares me too. My family is taking me to Spain and four days after we get back I have surgery. My husband says "one last vacation for the uterus". I know he means well but........I don't know. It's not the baby thing, I am over that I have Sheehan's Syndrome so I'm okay and I have three kids. It just seems a little weird to be 34 (35 when it's done) to not have a uterus! Do I really have to tell everyone and their mother I'm having hysterectomy, and why?

I am scared too!
I dont feel that bad physically. I am having gallbladder surgery at the same time and I think I have more discomfort from that. Like pain under my rib cage. I just had a period and it was really quite normal aside from some clots for a couple days. But it only lasted 5 days which is normal for me. What is weird for me is that I can feel the fibroid. It is at the top of my uterus (which is enlarged) near my belly button.
I am very scared because people keep saying "major sugery" and terms like that. I am scared of the catheter, and the incision. I deal with pain pretty good but I have never had anything like this before. I have not even had children!
Lately, I want to cry alot. My mom passed away a few years ago and I really wish she was here. I would love a hug from her or to just hear her voice. My sister, DH, and my friends are wonderful but they dont really know what its like to have this looming over my head everyday.
I will really be glad when its over. And I hope it will be over. Even though they say it isnt cancer it wont be final til the test on the removed stuff is done.
I guess I really am a basket case.

I am scared too!
Hey Comfortable Lady - I've been feeling the same way, and one of the ladies mentioned their surgery is the 23rd - I'll be thinking of you! My preop is the 23rd. I panicked on Friday night, when I realized that my surgery is only one week away. Then I started on a cleaning streak after everyone went to bed. Stayed up til 2 a.m.!! I've noticed, though, that the last 24 hours or so with cleaning and stuff, and especially after talking with many ladies on this site, I'm a little calmer for now. I think telling other ladies in similar situations really has helped me a lot. I'm sure as the day gets closer again I'll be panicked and scared more than ever - but for now, I'm going to enjoy the comfort I've gotten from the sisters! Keep writing - you'll feel better!

I am scared too!
I'm at a lost for words. I wish you the very best recovery time. To say the very least you are in NE where I wish I was for the surgery. Instead I'm in Germany with my mother-in-law coming to take care of us for a week after. That oughta make you smile My mom isn't able to make the long flight because of her health issues. I'm like you I wish my mom was here to take care of me.

I am scared too!
I understand the feeling of fear...I too have a surgery scheduled ( in just 2 days!) I have been keeping busy with household stuff and talking to friends really helps. I find a good sense of humor helps me. But, the unknown is indeed scarey. best of Luck and let me know how things go for you in afew weeks.
