1 week post op appt--many questions
Hello to all recovering princesses! My TAH/LSO was last Monday. (RSO 8 years ago) I have severe endometriosis and abnormal uterine bleeding was reason for hyst. I also had a severe bladder laceration from a previous surgery that has affected my already touchy bladder. I was/am hoping hyst will help with my bladder since it will no longer be fixed to my uterus
I am getting my staples out tomorrow and hoping I see the dr as I have many questions for him. It was hard to ask him questions while I was in the hospital because I was still groggy and in alot of pain. He was more concerned with my ureters (were reimplanted into bladder at age 2) and did not comment on the amount of or of lack of, endometriosis. Didn't really say what shape my uterus or ovary was in. (naturally curious) He also hasn't seemed too concerned with my concerns on my bladder. Don't know if I'm overly sensitive.....my bladder feels funny. Like a UTI, where it feels full and I can't completely empty. Bladder spasms have been horrible. Don't know if this is normal?? Anyone else with bladder issues before/after hyst?
I've also had hot flashes, mood swings, and night sweats. Dr said he might give me hormone shot that lasts 4-6 weeks during my surgery so that would be one less thing to worry about. I am thinking I didn't get the shot (I forgot to ask and he didn't say) so another thing to ask.
I'm still in alot more pain that I thought I would be. Sent me home with codeine which clearly states all over EVERYTHING that I am allergic to it. Pain is persistent on the right side (the side that hasn't had anything in 8 years) he did have to unkink my ureter on that side. Could that be causing the pain?
Sorry that my post is all over the place. Think of so many things and can't get them all in coherent form! I am so thankful for this site!

Re: 1 week post op appt--many questions
I had my sx 10-26-10 and I also had the bladder issues. The best way I can describe my feeling was when I was urinating, it would not be one continuous stream. It felt "labored" and felt like more effort was needed and also I would urinate, than stop a sec, urinate more etc. It was annoying, but that went away for me after the 1st week.
I am also having night sweats and bad headaches, but just increased my patch to .075 from .050 so I hope to see improvement within the next 48 hours.
I am almost 3 weeks post op and still have pain and spotting/bleeding. My doctor did not tell me anything about what to expect after my surgery and trust me I did ask questions. I wish I had more post op info from my doctor as far as specifics etc.
So, I hope I was helpful on some level. I, too, am thankful for this site as now I have much more information and knowledge following my sx now.

The first thing I would do is point out you are allergic to codeine. Believe me there are other medicines that may help. I had bladder issues before and after and was sent to urologist who diagnosed interstitial cystitis which is chronic inflammation. May want to ask about seeing urologist if problems are persisting. What works for me is to write everything down and then make sure I ask. Knowledge is power and you need to get some of it back. Good luck with appt. hope you feel better. sending hugs.

Re: 1 week post op appt--many questions
I am still in search of a good urologist. I went to a new one about 6 weeks ago, long story short, I don't think I like him and will begin a new search. He recommended me to my gyn (both my gyn and urologist moved in the past 6 months) who did the TAH. They refer back and forth to one another so......
I had went to see the uro. because of frequency day and night (going at least every 2 hours) (I also have interstim, pacemaker for the bladder) he didn't really have any answers other than I needed to see gyn ASAP because of vaginal bleeding. Told me come back in 2 weeks so he could look over my file ,etc and come up with a game plan. Fast forward 2 weeks, after I waited for an hour he came in, not remembering sending me to gyn, reviewed notes in front of me (it was obvious he didn't do his 'homework') I felt like it was a wasted appt. I asked him if he had any suggestions with my hyst. and my bladder and he was like gyn can handle it. I was wanting to know if a sling or a tack would be helpful. He just made me feel stupid. He's a smart *** in a non comforting-unprofessional way. I can appreciate a great sense of humor, he just hit me the wrong way. So....sorry about the vent! I feel better!
zenyatta5, I have also been told by prev uro. that I have interstitial cysitis but haven't found a uro that takes my bladder seriously
