~lost job~

Been on FMLA now for 12 weeks, actually my 12 weeks ran out Monday. Can't work due to the fact i have been battling a case of C-DIFF.

To make matters worse..

I lost my job.

Just informed today that "i have been taken out of the system but i am more than welcomed to reapply for my position once i am better". This is a job i have had for almost 3 years!

I can't apply for more FMLA, you are only allowed 12 weeks per calendar year. I can't apply for Unemployment, because with that you have to be "employable". I am not employable, i have something that is contagious.

I could apply for disability, but from what i read, it takes 6 months to get a check.

AND

Today marks my 12 week "hysterversary". What a way to celebrate.

I am so depressed right now. So upset.

Re: ~lost job~

Oh daisy I'm so sorry about your job. This has been constantly on my mind too. I was supposed to go back to work today after 4 weeks off but since I'm facing another surgery I don't know when I can go back to work. I'm hoping to have the surgery soon but my doctor doesn't want to rush it.

Do you have a good relationship with your boss? Can you take a leave of absence?

This is my fear as well but my husband keeps telling me to take care of my health first and I have a good relationship with my boss so I hope everything will turn out ok.

Re: ~lost job~

My HR Director kinda put it as in "we are opening up your position but you are more than welcome to reapply and you are eligible for rehire.".

I am sure that means "we are going to open your position but not hire anyone cuz we want you back"..

atleast i hope that is what she means..

I am just totally devastated.

My DH isn't being supportive either..which doesn't help. He is *****ing and complaining about me finding SOMETHING...i keep telling him I CAN"T WORK! DOCTORS ORDERS!! UNLESS I LIE ON A APPLICATION~INTERVIEW.

I will be very honest. Since my surgery i have felt like i regretted having it done. I have had one complication after another~now i feel like "what the he77 did i do to deserve this". I keep feeling like "how much do i have to pay for making the biggest mistake of my life"..(meaning the hyster)

I hope everything works out for you lou~surgery, your health and your job.

Re: ~lost job~

Daisy, I have been off since June 3rd and I have already gotten two disability checks. What state are you in? In CA, you fill out your forms, you get your doctor to fill out their part- probably charge you $25 for it-, mail it in and voila! Now, for some reason my coworker did not get her check for 6 weeks. I had all my paperwork ready before surgery, so when the 10 day waiting period had passed, in the mail it went and I had a check in a week. Get more info before you dismiss this.

Re: ~lost job~

Disability benefits vary by location. Can you talk to someone like the hospital social worker to see if you can get on some sort of state not federal disability for short term? The 6 month wait sounds like for longer term, usually there is a shorter term program. Often the hospital social workers are more knowledgeable than the Drs office and more helpful than the state office, esp if it was a hospital acquired infection! Next, consider if you need an infectious disease consult (hospital probably has one. Or GI consult----has your Dr consulted one of them for treatment recs as to why you still have this infection? It must be awful. I wish I had more advice of any value but do look further into the disability it would help. Sending hugs.

Re: ~lost job~

I am so sorry!

Not all states require employers to provide STD...mine (FL) does not. I purchased a policy thru my employer for a few $ a week and I will get a whopping $170 a week. I had my surgery 6/3 and still haven't gotten a check yet...doctors office messed but should be getting a few soon.

Again I am so sorry...c-diff is nasty.

Re: ~lost job~

It is like insult to injury~stuck at home with a nasty bug and no paycheck!

angel~hope you get a check soon. You never realize how much $170 means to you until you don't have it!

Re: ~lost job~

To add insult to injury...
my GYN refuses to see me..i was to have a ultrasound of my hematoma too see if it has shrunk, grown, whatever..and have her re-check my "cuff".

She told me to cancel my appt and reschedule when i am 'better'.

WTH! This is a DOCTORS OFFICE and i have been waiting for this follow up appt for 6 weeks to recheck my hematoma and my cuff (it didn't heal completley)...

Re: ~lost job~

Oh sweetheart I am so sorry to hear that. While I don't have advice, I can say I will keep you in my heart and thoughts. I hope you feel better soon. Definitely advocate yourself loudly. If you can't, ask a friend or relative to help field calls and do some research for you. Again, I hope you feel better soon. *HUGS*

Re: ~lost job~

Are you symptomatic with your C-Diff? Are you being treated for it? Why in the world wouldn't your Gyn's office see you? Have you tried throwing a mini-fit? Is the C-diff what's keeping you from working? If so, who is treating you? I'd be all over them to be as aggressive as possible in treating you. I'm so sorry this happened to you. C-diff is nothing to mess around with, but I did not realize it was so contagious it would keep you out of work. I hope you heal quickly and everything works out with your work.
