Tender left side and ointment??

Hello everyone,

I had my LSH on July 30, almost a week ago now. I am doing very well considering. (I've had 3 c-sections so this sort of recovery is old hat for me.)

My left side is extremely tender and is the side I have to "coddle" more than the other. Is that normal?? Oddly when I examine my incisions (which are under my "flap" from said c-sections and being overweight), the right side is all bruised and looks like a lost a few rounds with Mike Tyson, although that side does not hurt AT ALL. It doesn't even itch.

The left side has no bruising but is very tender when I'm getting in and out of bed or up and down in certain chairs. I've kept ice on it throughout the day most days. I'm just wondering if anyone else experienced this during recovery?

Also last summer I had surgery on my back and the wound was huge, itchy and painful. I bought some Wound Honey which helped tremendously (it was an OPEN wound after surgery that I have had to wait for it to heal). I am wondering if it would be safe to apply a little to my left incision and cover it with a bandaid to maybe help? (The steri-strips all came off already.)

Thanks for your help! (I see my doctor this week so I will definitely talk to him about all of this too!)

Re: Tender left side and ointment??

I would not suggest putting anything on your incision that your doctor doesn't approve of. As to one side hurting more than the other, that is usually the side that they do most of the work on although it is odd that you are bruised more on the other side and don't feel that one as much. Please let us know what your doctor says.

Re: Tender left side and ointment??

I think much of the culprit was the elastic on my undies! I put boyshorts on and it's not nearly as uncomfortable. Still more tender but not like it was before.
