6 days after surgery, 2 days home

I had my hysterectomy on Monday December 10, 2012. I don't remember much about that day except for being wheeled into the OR & seeing that boot thing that one of your legs goes in.....I remember thinking "there's NO WAY my leg can go that high". They had me on a pain pump for 2 days. I was supposed to get out the next day on Tuesday, but ended up having to stay until Thursday afternoon. Found out I'm a raging diabetic. My A1C was 10.9 & sugar was hovering around 450-500. Anyway, Tuesday.....OMG, I felt like I had been run over by a Mack truck. I could hardly move. EVERYTHING hurt. Wed, I was moving better, even took a shower & walked down the hall. I'm still having pains where my uterus was, but I was told that my bowels have taken over that space. I'm having trouble going to the bathroom. Peeing hurts if I don't go as soon as I feel the urge. As far as going #2, I'm having MAJOR issues with that. I've taken laxatives & stool softeners. I had one BM & it took, I promise, 30 mins to even get a lil out. I pushed a lil bit & I saw blood from my vagina come out, so I got scared that I had messed something up.......so now, I'll just sit there & if it doesn't come out on it's own.....then it can stay. LOL, seriously though.....I am trying to eat foods with lots of fiber & taking the stool softeners. As far as my body goes, I can't stand for over 5 mins at the most, I feel lots of pressure down there if I do. I wish they made these pressure socks in pink.....can I get an Amen??!! LOL Also, having quite a bit of pain in my left arm. It's swollen & very sore all the way from my wrist to my elbow. That's the arm my IV was in. I have kids here to help me, but I hate calling them to help me with every little thing, so as I'm typing this, I'm waiting on pain meds to kick in. Had to do some laundry & a few other things.....so I'm hurting pretty bad. I've bent over several times ( I KNOW....that's a NO NO)! I can tell that tomorrow is going to be a painful day. I'm scared my arm will never stop hurting.....someone said something about vein raw from strong meds.....IDK. I wonder how long it's gonna be before I'm back to whatever "normal" is? I wonder when I'm gonna not have to depend on my kids so much. It's just me & my kids here......so while recovering from major surgery, I'm also taking care of my son who has the flu (he's getting better), he's 13 & my daughter who has an attitude problem & she's 11. My ex husband can't keep them when he has a migraine, so does that make me a stronger person than him OR is that just a confirmation of what a donkey he is??? Anyway, all in all.....I'm feeling/dealing better than I thought I would, but I'm still pretty miserable! I am also on more medication.....I have to take 4 shots a day of 2 different types of insulin......

Re: 6 days after surgery, 2 days home

I am sorry that things are so rough for you right now. You need to take it easy as what you had is considered major surgery. You need to know that if you don't rest and let your body heal, you will be setting your recovery back and you may even end up with permanent complications. So doing laundry right now is not a good idea.

I am concerned about your arm. If it is red and swelling, you really need to have it looked at by the doctor. I hope things go better for you soon.
