anyone hpv tested?

Please help - I am totally confused. After a LEEP for severe dysplasia, I had normal paps for 1.5 yrs. At the last visit, I had a routine colposcopy which showed moderate dysplasia but a NORMAL pap. (Just had a cone biopsy and waiting for results.)

Has ANYONE had HPV testing after a LEEP/CONE to test for recurrence? Did the test help you with answers? Where did you get it done?????

I wonder if I had been HPV tested last year, if the disease would have shown I was still at risk instead of waiting. My doctor(s) both say there's no point and won't do it. Can anyone tell me otherwise. I am in Canada and wonder if I have to go to the US to find out the answer or get the test. I will go ANYWHERE.

Thank you. I am trying to resolve all my questions before NOV 12 when I make the BIG decision re TVH!!!!!

anyone hpv tested?

they test for the hpv when they do a pap smear, there is no cure for it so if it came up in your of your tests previously it will still be there. i dont know if they have to special ask for that test run on yuor smear where you are but here my docs have always just done it.

If you do make sure to find out what strain you have if its is positive as there are more than 65 strains and they all do different things.. and it makes research very hard if you dont know what strain it is.
they have proven that some strains are directly linked to cervical cancer...
hope this helps.

anyone hpv tested?

In the US, it is a normal procedure to test for HPV when you have an abnormal pap. My Dr. tested me for it after I began having abnormal paps about 3 years ago. Having HPV shouldn't make a difference with your TVH. If you do indeed have HPV, this procedure will not remove the virus from your system....Once you have the virus, you will always have it. As stated before, there are many types of HPV and it is helpful to know which type you have because they do cause different problems. One strain causes cervical, vaginal and anal cancer while another may cause genital warts. All strains can be passed on to your sex partners and condoms will not protect you 100% from it because the virus is so small. Again, you will want to know if you have it because you would want to discuss it with your partner, hopefully before sex. Some women who have the virus and who have had numerous cervical problems opt to have their cervix removed during a hysterectomy to keep from having future procedures performed. If this is the case, you would still want to get a vaginal "smear" done at least every two years to rule out any other abnormalities that may occur as a result of this virus. It is estimated that by the time they reach 30 almost 90% of all sexually active women have been exposed to this virus in one form or another. It is possible to have more than one form of this virus. It is also possible to have this virus for many years without showing any symptoms or knowing it. Some women who have this virus never develop symptoms.

Hope this helps too!
