Vaginal Cuff not closing

Friday I went to my 6 week post op check. I have been spotting ever since my surgery 10/28. Doc said my vagical cuff is not healing. He then used silver nitrate to help speed up the healing. Today is Tuesday and I'm still spotting. I have not noticed any difference after the silver nitrate. I see my Doc again on Friday and he may have to repeat the treatment. I'm wondering if anyone else experienced this and did the silver nitrate work? If not what else did your Doc try?

Other than the spotting the surgery has been wonderful for me. I have had no abdominal pain and I feel so much better. I'm so disappointed about the spotting though. I was really looking forward to never having a period again and instead I've been wearing a pad for 6 weeks.

Thanks for any input on this situation. I'm looking forward to hearing your responses!

Re: Vaginal Cuff not closing

I hate to tell you, but I had my surgery 10/20/2008 and spotted until April 2009. One day it did end, but was very frustrating, especially when reading about how everyone else's just went away! You can check my posts from last year and how frustrated I was!

BTW, I never had any silver nitrate treatments. I don't think my Doc thought I could handle them, and said there was no need, obviously there was.

I, too, bled for a long time (12 weeks) and know it is frustrating! Some of us just take a bit longer to completely heal from this surgery!

in there and know that one day it will heal up, one way or another!

Re: Vaginal Cuff not closing

Silver nitrate has been very common for women in that situation. Sometimes it takes a few attempts. I remember you went back to work at about 2 weeks post op. I know that sitting up for logn periods can put pressure on the cuff. Even with the earlier healing of a da vinci, the cuff still has to heal back together, so if you can put your foot up on a stool it m ight help. (Don't know if that applies or not for you.)

Hang in there,
