I'm home

Hi Ladies:

I got home from the hosptial at 9:00am yesterday. I had a TLH on Monday and so far am just using Tylenol for pain. I would have posted yesterday but my caretakers (Mom and husband) were very good about making me rest!

I finally slept last night. I didn't sleep a wink in the hospital literally. My hospital was great, more like a hotel than a hospital believe it or not. The staff was amazing. My surgery was at 8:50am and it was completed in 25 minutes. When my mom and sister-in-law saw the doctor come out, they thought something was wrong (poor things). The doctor told them that I did great and they would be seeing me soon. I was lucky that I didn't have any endometriosis (instead I had endometritis); no adhesions or fibroids). I think that is why my recovery so far has been so good.

I didn't feel the least bit nauseous. The anesthesiologist gave me Zofran and Decadron. I don't know what he did, but my throat didn't even feel like there was a tube down there. I had a scratch voice for a little while, but no pain. I was in recovery until 11:00am and then went to my room. My catheter was out by 3:00pm and I had no problems peeing. I was up walking around at 3:15pm. I was taking one of my walks and bumped into my doctor. He was shocked that I was up so soon.

For those of you who are extremely nervous, I know what you are going through. I didn't sleep for days before my surgery and I kept second guessing my decision, I think this is normal. However, on the morning of my surgery a sense of calmness came over me, my mother and sister-in-law, they were another story. I think they were more nervous than I was. Just be sure to tell the anesthesiologist your fears and they will take care of you.

I'll write more later.

Sandra

Sandra: I'm so glad that you're home and doing great. The hospital seems to be the worst place to try to get some rest and sleep! Remember to take care of yourself and not to overdo it since you're feeling so good. You still just had major surgery.

Welcome home! You're doing great. Just remember to rest and not to try to do too much too soon. That's a real temptation after a TLH.
