ER- When to go?
I absolutely hate going to the ER. What are the signs that you should go?
I know fever is one, and obviously if there is blood present where there shouldn't be, but what about pain? Being dizzy, etc...when should we worry and go?
I made a thread about painful BM's. I would hate to go there, and after all that time waiting, they say- you are fine, just ride it out.

Re: ER- When to go?
I would contact your dr about this one. If you are having dizzy spells and pain that sounds more like a trip to your dr for a checkup to find out what could be going on.
My list told me serious signs include a high fever (low grade not necessary), signs of infection (warm to touch, red, *****). My incision starting bleeding the day after I was discharged. I didn't feel it necessary to go to the er and sit around in a very germy environment being exposed to who knows what to be cleaned up and sent home. But I did call my dr the following monday and make an appt. Turns out it isn't serious. Side effect of the heparin I was given but this really is your call. Do you go and wait it out or do you call the dr? I prefer to call the dr because as I stated above your too exposed to other germs/disease in the er.

Re: ER- When to go?
I think what you are experiencing with your BM's is pretty normal. The bowels can take weeks to straighten out...your body has been through a trauma, anesthesia, pain meds and needless to say, your routine has been drastically altered for the time being. And yes, it can hurt (I know b/c I've been having issues of my own). Be sure to call your doc ASAP, though...he or she will advise you. Good luck and you'll be as good as new before you know it!

Re: ER- When to go?
I have a friend that had a TVH and went to the ER because of the horrible pain she had because she could not have a BM. She was glad she did - she thought she was dying. My suggestion, if nothing else is working and you are unable to function and can't wait to see the dr- I would go.

Re: ER- When to go?
hi, I had a TAH. 4 weeks ago, i was having normal b/m till 5 days after i left the hospital, then for 4 days nothing, and the pain was so intense i couldnt take it anymore, i went to the er, waited 10 hrs, did tests, told to go home and come back in the am for ultrasound, waited another 8 hrs in the er, asked nurse if i could call in for my results she said no u have to stay they found something, 3 hrs later i am in there getting OR iv lock in, spent the night in the er before moving upstairs, turned out the fluids and blood that is supposed to absord in the body didnt and collected and infected, size of a grapefruit, right between my bladder and butt, they said if i had waited anymore days i could have gone toxic stayed in hospital for a week, so me personally i would call ur dr in the very least, i didnt bleed, or discharge or anything, had no idea anything was collecting, just couldnt go to the bathroom, also had urinary tract infection because they had to cathador me again two days after surgery, dont want to freak u out but an ultrasound is all it takes for piece of mind, its just a phone call.......i thought i was being a wimp they said no, i did what was right, dont wait too long,.
