Bleeding from cuff with position change? - 4 weeks post op -

Hi all - I'm sorry if this creates a visual you'd rather do without, but I have been having some bleeding issues that continue to worry me! I am just shy of 4 weeks post op after a DvH/BSO. I started bleeding lightly at 1 week post op. My doctor said it was normal and could continue for up to 6 weeks. It's not very heavy. I wear a pantiliner and change it once or twice a day. BUT, when I sit up from laying down, or stand up from sitting down, I can feel it squeeze out. Like the position change is putting pressure on something and making it bleed. Is that bad? Has anyone else had this experience? Sorry if that's graphic. I just would feel better knowing! THANKS!

I haven't experienced what you are post-op, but that increase in bleeding upon standing thing was pretty common for me during my period. I think the blood just collects and flows more freely when your body is in a position that allows it to happen.

This doesn't sound alarming to me but if you're bleeding a lot, running a fever, having an increase in pain, noticing an odor or having really red red blood, I'd just call the nurse/doc and ask. Might be worth trying to do things a little differently. If sitting directly up makes you bleed, can you maybe try turning on your side before you get up? I found it helped my pain at least if I was very conscious to use other muscle groups when I moved around. Try to keep your belly as relaxed as possible and use the belly band if it feels ok. Maybe your stitches just need a little more support... it can take a really long time for that internal stuff to heal up!

Take care and as always... call your doc if you're concerned! Only one chance to heal right

Re: Bleeding from cuff with position change? - 4 weeks post op -

I had my vaginal hysterectomy and major prolapse surgery in May 2012. Then a revision of the prolapse(rectocyle) and bladder sling in Dec. 2012. I still have slight bleeding at times. I was at my gyn last week and he said there was some inflammation at the vaginal cuff. This was because of me using a dilator to enlarge the width of the vagina. It is smaller than it used to be, but with the dilator it should begin to stretch. I wouldn't worry about the bleeding. I had it off and on and am still having it at times.

Thank you all for your responses! It helps a lot. I hate seeing blood. My doctor wasn't concerned when I mentioned the bleeding at my two week post op and said it could continue for up to 6 weeks, but I just hate seeing it. It seems so scary. And I want to be DONE buying pantiliners!! Thanks again!

Re: Bleeding from cuff with position change? - 4 weeks post op -

I experienced a bit of a heavier spotting when I changed positions in bed or had a BM as well.

Today was the first day I had no spotting or bleeding and hoping its over!!

There can be so many confusing signals and it's always better to talk about it and be safe!

Believe it or not, despite all my preparations, I didn't think about the fact that I might be spotting after surgery. I had that same feeling: "Wasn't this supposed to get rid of my period!?!?!?"

Soon... It did stop eventually, for me it tapered around 6 weeks so hang on and take it one day at a time!!! Hoping you're pantyliner free in no time!
