Tired of the pain

So I had yet another doc appt yesterday this time with my actual ob. Right off the bat I told her I want to talk about a hysterectomy. For about a year I've been in pain, I have two heavy periods a month sometimes it's 5 days off sometimes it 13. They are so painful. Not to be tmi but at this point sex is a no go. So after trying 4 different birth controls, and doing some pain meds things got worse. Now I'm at high risk for a stroke. As much as I'd love to have another baby I'm truly blessed to have the 3 girls I have.
So after an exam she agreed my prolapsed uterus is getting worse and a hysterectomy was probably my best option. So any advice would be great.

Re: Tired of the pain

Yikes! It sounds like you're at your wit's end with this. If your doctor thinks a hysterectomy is your best route right now, and you're ready for the talk, is there something in particular holding you back or worrying you? Have you gone through the other options with your doctor?

Tired of the pain

She did give me another option, but she doesn't think that it will do any good and I will still end up having to do the hysterectomy. But she said it was a big decision so she wanted me to do my research and join on here and to contact her after 3 days.
So as a family we've decided to do the hysterectomy, we just have a lot we have to work out since we have two 10yr olds and a 3yr old. We are going to have to have extra help since my husband works 12hr days sometimes more like 14.

Re: Tired of the pain

I would suggest that you research whatever the other option was that your doc gave you. Have you considered a second opinion? Like you, I had suffered almost daily for over a year with pain that only Percocet could alleviate but only for about an hour. After several alternative treatments, it was the pain that drove me to my decision.

Your quality of life is everything. If your suffering impedes you from being the mom, daughter, sister, aunt, or wife you want to be then you are likely ready for this. It is a huge decision and for you even bigger when you have children that will need to be cared for as you recover. You will know when you are truly ready. Take your time, do your research, and ask your doc many questions. There are wonderful articles on this site and below are links to a few.

I wish you well on this journey. Whenever you choose to proceed with a hysterectomy, you will feel like a new woman. My last day of suffering was the day before my hysterectomy and the aches from surgery were not even close to what I tolerated for so long. I hope this is comforting to you to know that I and many others literally noticed our relief the very next day.

Good luck, sister

Tired of the pain

Thank you, and yes I did look into it, and it would only solve 1 issue and not the several others that I have nor the pain. I am honestly at peace with this. Knowing that there is hope for a life without painful draining periods, or just pain and general. I want to be able to run around with my kids and not feel like I'm being ripped open. I'm just ready, I'm still looking at the research but ultimately this is for the best.
Thank you for the advice and support. It means a lot. And it's nice to know I'm not alone in this and don't feel like a crazy person.
