Upcoming enterocele, rectocele, cystocele, and hysterectomy surgery
I am 32, my surgery is scheduled for April and I'm extremely nervous about the recovery, I'm nervous about the pain. I have requested two weeks off and after that I plan on going back to work, I am a medical assistant. Any advice or comforting words would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Upcoming enterocele, rectocele, cystocele, and hysterectomy surgery
Hi B,
I had TVH (took ovaries), A & P repairs, and vault surgery and can report that at 9 weeks today I just cleaned out my really big closet after flying Saturday to Vegas for a birthday party. I feel really good--so much better than before. Tummy is still tender and swollen which seems normal for awhile. I didn't take anything but ibuprofen after surgery, but the high dosage gave me a rebound headache after a few weeks so I switched to Aleve. If you do not overdo it, the pain stays manageable. My worst pain was lower back pain which kept me from being able to do much for several weeks. My heating pad has been my best friend--I just put it wherever the ache of the moment was. All of these surgeries combined are much harder, but I was so happy to have it all done at once. Everyone is different, but at week 9 I still get uncomfortable sitting straight up for a long time due to the swelling. I work out of my home and have been doing computer work from week two, but in a reclining position with feet up. I had bladder issues due to the swelling, but they have resolved. This website was a day to day life saver for me. I was so miserable before surgery that I had really lost my zest for life. I can honestly say I now have it back again! Best wishes to you, CJ

In your opinion, do you think I'll be good to sit in a chair with minimal walking after two weeks, I just really can't afford to take anymore time off than that

Re: Upcoming enterocele, rectocele, cystocele, and hysterectomy surgery
2 weeks seem too short to me. Our bodies do need the rest after going thru the trauma of a manor surgery. Am hitting my 3 week mark this thurs and would not have been able to resume work yet. Am supposed to resume work next week, after 4 weeks rest and yet i apprehend it. Having said that, everyone heals differently. Wish you all the best.

Hi B,
Everyone is different so you will have to see. I am 5'3" so, maybe because I am short, the swelly belly makes my insides feel cramped when I sit straight up. Rolling office chairs with some give in the back would help you. Maybe you could look around and borrow the most comfortable chair for the first few weeks. I am 51 and you are much younger so you may bounce back much better than me....HUGS, CJ

Re: Upcoming enterocele, rectocele, cystocele, and hysterectomy surgery
I am 37 and having a hysterectomy, cystocele, rectocele repair, bladder sling and perineorrphagy on 4/21- they told me 2-3 weeks off (I am also an MA but do front desk as well so can sit all day). The urologist really wants me to take 3 weeks but I just can't. My job would be in jeopardy as I don't have the PTO hours. One nurse even told me 10 days would be fine! They said because I am younger and otherwise very healthy, I should bounce back fine. I will anticipate discomfort and fatigue, but I was assured I won't be doubled over in pain. Keep in touch- our situations are very similar!
