ok to wash steri strips/incision with safeguard/dial soap

Hello,

I still have steri strips over my incision and I am at 17 days post op.

Is it ok to wash the steri strips with safeguard soap/water and/or dial soap/water?

Thus far, I have only been using water, and see that some of you use soap, but not sure if having steri strips on matters.

blessings.

Ty

You should give your doctor a call to find out his/her instructions of how to care for your incision as every doctor is different.

Re: ok to wash steri strips/incision with safeguard/dial soap

I used dial soap to wash around my incision, but when the steri strips were still on, I didn't really mess with them too much. But I had staples for a week and steri strips for a week, so I didn't have to deal with them too long. Since you're 17 days post op, you should call your Dr. and see if they'll let you remove them.

Re: ok to wash steri strips/incision with safeguard/dial soap

My doctor and the hospital discharge staff told me to soap up over and on each side of the incision and let the suds run over the incision. I was also told not to pull on the strips because even though you are healing and maybe getting a scar you are pulling on still healing skin. I was ts they will loosen and fall off over time.

I had 30 staples. 10 were removed at the hospital and then 10 more removed 2 days later and the last 10 2 days after that so I had my staples 11 days total.

I would definitely call the doctor.

Re: ok to wash steri strips/incision with safeguard/dial soap

I washed around my steri strips with dial anitbacterial soap (which I use do to oily skin) and let in run over them...I never actually rubbed the soap on them. Some of the steri strips came off during the first 2 weeks of recovery...what was left at 2 week checkup the Dr. took off. I didn't have stitches or staples...just the glue stuff.

This was the directions my Dr. gave upon discharge from the hospital. I would give the Dr. a call just to be safe. Hope this helps you somewhat.

Re: ok to wash steri strips/incision with safeguard/dial soap

The nurse at the castle told me that dial was the best soap to use because its antibacterial. I bought the liquid soap, suds up the washcloth and let the suds run over that area when I was showering. Then my dr told me to take the strips off on day 10, though I ended up going in and she removed.

I would call the dr though to make sure bcuz we are all different and every dr has different instructions. Dont want to hinder your healing!
