Having Sugery because of c-section scars?

Has anyone had sugery becuase their doc thinks you have scars from c-section and tube ligation and appendex removal.

He wants to expore to see if this is where my constant pain is coming from.

Any stories, hopefully successful ones?

Having Sugery because of c-section scars?

Hi sblack Are you talking about an exploratory laparotomy? It sounds like the DR thinks you may have a lot of adhesions in your pelvic area that are causing you pain.

You might check out the resources on Adhesions in our Resources directory. To get there, click on the Resources tab at the left, then scroll down till you get to the Road Less Traveled: Adhesions Resources section, and click on that. You might find the website Adhesions.org particularly helpful.

Good luck!

Having Sugery because of c-section scars?

Women who have had c-sections and tubal ligations have a much higher incidence of adenomyosis, which is where the endometrial lining of the uterus actually infiltrates the muscle fibers. This often causes heavy bleeding, clots, and lots of pain.

Endometriosis, which is where the lining migrates outward into the pelvic cavity, can cause a lot of scar tissue as well, which can also be pretty painful. Also, endo creates its own blood supply, and bleeds internally just like it would inside the uterus. All of these conditions cause a LOT of pain, particularly if nerves nearby are involved.

I would certainly ask about laparoscopy or exploratory laparotomy before going as far as a hysterectomy. Some women with endo have bought a lot of relief with laparoscopy that targets the implants. Adeno, however, is trickier to treat AND to diagnose, and there are some that would tell you that a hysterectomy is the only real treatment for adeno.

I did get a great deal of relief from pain with my surgery; however, it has come with a price. Those of us with endo tend to continue to form scar tissue, and a hysterectomy is not necessarily a "cure" for endo.

I hope you get some answers. A second, or even third, opinion, is a MUST when dealing with endo and adeno!
