Only 32. Keep Ovaries?

I am do to have a Vaginal Hysterectomy/Rectocele on March 11th. I have been told because of my age, I should keep the ovaries. I have heard so many women say that if I keep them, it just means surgery again later. Just need to know if anyone else my age kept theirs and needed surgery later.

Only 32. Keep Ovaries?

Hi!
I am 30. I had a TVH and a posterior repair on 12/1/03. I kept my ovaries. My DR would not take mine because he said they were very healthy.
I have heard all of the horror stories about needing surgery later too. My DR told me it would not be necessary if my ovaries were healthy. I can only hope he is right.
I do wish you the very best of luck with your upcoming surgery.
Take care and God Bless You.

Only 32. Keep Ovaries?

I would have kept my ovaries if I was as young as you are. I am 20 years older and had other problems. Your ovaries could keep you from going into menapause. Meds are fine, but why spend good money on them if you don't need to?

You need to decide for yourself. Ask your doc questions and then decide, but you asked for my 2 cents worth. Bookfairy

Keep Ovaries?

When I was 38 had TAH and one ovary removed due to endo on bowel, bladder, uterus and ovaries. Doc said leaving in one was taking a 50/50 chance but because of my age should be considered. She left the better of the two. Ended up having surgery 6 wks ago (45 yrs old) to have the remaining ovary taken out - totally diseased with endo and enlarged / stuck to bowel and bladder. Same endo pain all over again and bikini cut - the same surgery again.

I like you didn't want to go into surgical menopause at the time. If I had the chance to go back a do it differently, knowing the extent of the endo I would have had everything out the first time around. But this is a very personal decision to make and all of the circumstances must be taken into consideration.

Only 32. Keep Ovaries?

I am 36 and had TVH in October. I kept my Ovaries because they are healthy. The doctor told me he would examine them closely during the surgery and only remove them if he saw a problem. Fortunately there was no problem and I kept them both. I would rather take the risk of having to have another surgery 10 or 15 years down the road than loose them this young.

Only 32. Keep Ovaries?

I was 28 when I had my TAH, and I opted to keep my ovaries, because they were healthy.

It has been over 3 years, and they are still working great, with no problems!
