Have to self-cath, need advice

I had Davinci hyster & cervix, left the ovaries and a ureter collagen injection 12/13 - spent one night in hospital, somewhat 'monitored', attendants let my bladder hold 1900 ccs before surgeon came back to put in a pediatric cather because I could not void on my own-after huge bladder spasm that was worse than childbirth - I think the hysterectomy went well, my question is, has anyone had subsequent bladder issues? I have been back to the urologist (who I love) 3 x's and they keep putting in a Foley and say I may have to self cath for another month-am so needing advice!!!

Lmonty -

I am sorry to hear you are having issues.

If no one stops in with their experiences you can use the Search feature and enter terms life "self cath" to see if you can find older threads on this topic. I know we have had other members who have had to do this.

Re: Have to self-cath, need advice

Hi just checking in to see how your progress was and if everything turned out ok. I went home from the hospital with a Foley for a week, still couldn't pee enough when they removed it so have been self- catheterization for 11 days now. I am 3 weeks post op today and getting a little discouraged that my progress is so slow. I do see progress but I am definitely not near the "consistently only having 50 ml left" range the doctor said I would need to be at to stop.
How long did you have to self- cath and do you recall anything special helping your progress? Thanks for any advice.

Re: Have to self-cath, need advice

I came home with a cath for 3 weeks. my bladder was cut during surgery. After 3 weeks I was able to have it out, now my problem (8 weeks post op) is I feel like I have to pee all the time.!! It sucks but I am trying to train my bladder to hold it.
