I am really anxious about my hys coming up on the 27th. I have a lower uterine fibroid (the size of an extra large grapefruit), my uterus is 4 times the size it should be, leans to the left, and I have PCO. Of course, that means a total hys. I don't know if it will be an abdominal or vaginal procedure. I have mixed feelings about getting this done. I know everyone thinks I'm crazy, but....it is so permanent. I have 3 kids and don't want anymore, but I feel like I'm losing the part of me that makes me a woman. Does anybody understand my feelings? :confuse: I can't talk to my husband about it, he doesn't "get" it. I've looked over the questions list and added them to my list. What else can I do?

Hi, Bea -

No, you're not crazy, and no one on THIS site will think that, guaranteed!! Being scared is very normal, and so are ALL of your other feelings. And no, our husbands, as wonderful as they may be, can't "get" it. Keep in mind that everything you are goes into making you a woman - your heart and mind and soul, not just one part of your body. Remind yourself of why you are doing this.

Read all you can, ask questions, and try to relax some - do some fun things if you can!

We're all here for you!

Cheers,

{{{{hugs}}}} Bea. Sure our husbands are wonderful, but there just some things that are just "woman" things, just like there's just "guy" thngs--stuff the other sex will never, ever get in a thousand years. Doesn't make it wrong, just different.

If it helps any, I/we also had made the "no more kids" decision, too. Have two wonderful, healthy girls. I still had the blues for a while after the hyst decision was also. Keep in mind, though, we'd made our "no more kids" decision 19 years ago! I not only had some blue feelings, but a few tears, too.

Each one of us is entitled to our very individual, personal feelings. Yours sure sound pretty normal to me. Please take care to ask ALL your questions that you can think of. Much of any calmness I had prior to surgery was because I'd asked so many questions. You still have plenty of time to ask away!
