TAH/BSO Staple Removal after hysterectomy - terrified!

I've got my first post op on Thursday 6/30 (I'll be 13 days post op.) The PA in the office is to then remove my 40+ staples. Is this going to be bad? I've never had staples, only stitches, and those weren't bad to remove at all. I'm terrified about the staples though!!!! Someone tell me this is going to be all right!

I had the same surgery. I thought it would be horrible too. It was surprisingly easy. They just sting a little coming out. The nurse told me we can take a break anytime. There was no need. Very easy. Oh, and this is going to be alright.

Hello,
The staple removal is not bad at all!! I was also nervous... some pulled a bit but really it was a piece of cake! I also had 40 + staples with a vertical incision.
Good luck....just breath thru it...you will be fine!

Re: TAH/BSO Staple Removal: terrified!

It was quite easy to get them out. I had 30 of them. They use a staple remover for these type of staples. A couple hurt a bit as there was still dried blood, otherwise it was painless and quick.mafter that, steri strips were put on in a couple spots.

I was the same way. Had 39 with a 7" vertical incision. When I arrived, I asked the nurse if they would numb the area first and she said no. I was terrified. She said it would sting a tiny bit but should be nothing to be concerned about. She was right.....it was a piece of cake! You'll be fine.

Re: TAH/BSO Staple Removal after hysterectomy - terrified!

You will be fine, I had my staples removed 5 days ago & I have never had any stitches or staples before so had no idea what to expect, It really really isn't painful because they have cut through your nerves for the operation you are mostly numb where the staples are. All you can feel is a slight tugging/pulling at times. I think its more painful having a normal plaster pulled off than having staples removed!!!!

I had 38 staples and it was like flick, flick, flick. The nurse had a special tool she used. It was over in minutes.

Like you, I was terrified to have my staples removed. They were out before I knew it and asked the doctor if he was sure he got them all! LOL Seriously, you will feel a MILLION times better when they are out. I felt like I could finally move! Good luck and I will be sending good thoughts!!!!
