Should I pick a Dr. skilled at endo even if not diagnosed yet?

Ok this is a question for those of you w/ endo found during a hyst. I need a hyst for adeno. I am getting my second opinions and meeting a couple new drs this month. I am wondering if the chances are great of them finding endo as well, and if I should pick a dr. who would be skilled at endo excision for the surgery. In a perfect world, I would do that just to be on the safe side. I would love to hear if any of you did this. Thanks in advance.

Should I pick a Dr. skilled at endo even if not diagnosed yet?

I would say having a surgeon that is knowledgeable and skilled at finding/removing endometrial implants was at the top of my list. So many doctors that I have seen where not concerned about what a mess it was making of my life, but of the infertility problem. So when I finally decided enough was enough, I wanted a doctor that would take the time to hunt down and obliterate the endo. I wanted to feel better, and I do! I'm so glad God led me to my doctor.

You should talk to your gyn and ask what preparations he/she will make if they should find endo. I had a TAH/BSO in early Oct due to severe pelvic pain, fibroids and painful periods. When they opened me up, I had the worst case of endo that the physicans had ever seen.

I was very lucky that my gyn did not have a "big ego" and attempt to remove the endo on his own. The gyn removed my female organs and immediately called in the oncologist. The oncologist removed all of endo except for a small amount that was left on my ureter.

Be sure to check with your doctor and let them know your concerns.

Good luck!

Beachloversis:

IMHO, yes! Please, whenever possible, consult and endometriosis specialist when endo or adeno are suspected. Good thinking! Lisaanne2 is correct. Adeno is endo inside the uterine wall (rather than just in the lining). I never heard the word Adeno until I came here and then saw it on my TAH path report. Sure explained my ultra heavy periods!

Here's my experience (keep in mind, my experience is just that and not medical advice or any guaranty of your outcome):

My gyn suspected endo at 24 and sent me to an endo specialist who scheduled a laparoscopy and confirmed it. From there, medication followed by another lap. Eventually at 35, had a hysterectomy and a BSO at 38. I'm doing well. I firmly believe that seeing a specialist was key to delaying the inevitable and allowing me to make choices that were right for me.

Best of luck!!!

Thanks for all the replies. I will choose my new gyn based on his/her skill for both, hyst and endo excision. I like the idea of being prepared, especially since I have never had a lap. I am not sure that my symptoms are consistent w/ endo, but I would rather be safe. Thanks for sharing your experiences.
