Upcoming hysterectomy 2/14: Not sure how to post this in the pre-op Open House Forum.

Hi!
I'm not sure how to post this in the Pre-Op Open House Chat, so, here I am. Lol!
Anyway, I'm having a TAH on Tuesday, I'm having my uterus, cervix and fallopian tubes removed and I'm keeping my ovaries.
My Dr. is going to try to do it vaginally first, but doesn't think that she'll be able to being that my uterus is over sized and some of the fibroids are large.
I'm having this done due to painful and heavy periods for years due to fibroids.
I'm looking forward to living a normal life.
The pain and heavy bleeding keeps me in bed for days every month and I'm looking forward to relief.
I have to admit I'm nervous because it's surgery and the recovery period.
But, I know that once I get through the surgery and recovery period, I'll be happy that I had it done.
Good luck and Best Wishes to all of my fellow sisters who are also having their hysterectomys this week!

Re: Hi! Not sure how to post this in the pre-op Open House Forum.

I had a TAH and was prepared for the worst when it came to recovery. Instead, my recovery turned out to be easy and rather relaxing, although it *was* long. I had minimal pain and no complications. I went back to work at a part-time desk job at four weeks, had all my restrictions lifted at six weeks and felt that my body was performing normally at eight weeks. I had some minor abdominal swelling that lasted another month, but that was only apparent in the evenings.

Good luck on Tuesday!

Just wishing you the best tomorrow. Not much of a Valentine's Day for you but I know that in a few weeks, you will feel so much better getting all that junk (aka fibroids) out. Good luck!
