TAH: Surgery tomorrow! ? about low blood sugar

I have hypoglycemia which I control with my diet. I snack in between meals during the day. If I don't eat, I get weak, shakes, sweats, etc. I'm told to report to the hospital at 10:15AM tomorrow....no food or water after midnight tonight. That's a long stretch for me. I usually eat early in the morning, snack, then lunch....How do I control the hypoglycemia if I can't eat? I've told the preregistration nurse, but she didn't seemed concerned.

I am also hypoglycemic, and like you, control it with diet. My surgery was at 11 AM. I talked to my anesthesiologist about it and she told me to PUSH clear liquids until 7 AM surgery morning. So, I drank white grape juice and water. I was on a clear liquid diet after 12 pm the day before surgery.

Talk to your doc - maybe you can do the same - some liquids in the morning.
