Vaginal suspension?

Is anyone who has not had previous prolapse problems having there vagina suspended during their hyster? I've read that it should absolutely be done and I've read that it isn't necessary. My surgeon did not say if he was planning on this. I have had consults with him in the past where he said the vagina is just left floating free after Hyster so I'm thinking he is not planning on attaching my vaginal cuff to my ligaments. What do you ladies think? Any advise? My surgeon is kind of a know it all jerk. He is supposed to be good but gets his feathers ruffled if I bring up anything some one told me or God forbid! something I read on the Internet!

I had a TAH (total abdominal hysterectomy) and my understanding is that for that surgery, the ligaments that formerly supported the uterus were reattached to the top of the vagina. For other kinds of hysterectomies, I don't know.

Thank you. I've read that it is more common to go ahead and suspend the cuff during hysterectomies now but not necessarily standard treatment.
