Coming out of the closet with a question...
Hello all,
I have been reading here for some time now. This is a wonderful place for information and I truly appreciate each of you who shares her stories here.
I am scheduled for a TAH on 1/26 due to unexplained heavy (and prolonged) bleeding. I typically bleed for 2-3 weeks out of each 4. I am also slightly anemic. I do also have MS (and health issues with that) so I will be glad to get this over with. It is the Dr's intention to keep my ovaries since I am "only" 40. I have 2 children and my tubes are tied so that's not an issue for me.
OK, enough explaination! My question is, I am planning on buying concert tickets for my family to go to a concert (Toby Keith) on 2/15. This will be one day short of 3 weeks after surgery. Is this something that I can do? I know that everyone heals differently but I do want some input on what you think of the possibility. I can take the heat! Obvoiusly, my hubby would drop the boys and I off at the door and there will be no extensive walking. I am planning to buy tickets when they go on sale Sat. morning so I'd like to hear from anyone that wants to chime in!
Thanks so much and sorry this is so long! You all are the BEST!
Kelly

Jeez,
I must be really out of it- I've never heard of Toby Keith!
I think it's possible for you to go, though you may be pretty tired by the end of the concert. I had a TAH at age 43 and at 3 weeks I was going out to dinner and walking 3 miles a day. Don't be afraid of walking! You may not be up to walking as far as I did, but walking will aid your recovery.
I would also ask your doctor his/her opinion.

For Toby Keith, I'd go the day after surgery! You may consider bringing a small pilliow to sit on, hug, etc... and some pain killers if needed. I have not had surgery yet but have had other tummy surgery and went and saw KISS at 3 weeks post op. I was a little sore but the fun kept me going! Have fun!

Coming out of the closet with a question...
I don't want to burst your bubble, but I personally couldn't have done it.
after a TAH sitting for several hours can be very uncomfortable.
I know everyone is different, but I can honestly tell you that I had a pretty routine recovery, I wasn't on pain meds after the first 24 hours and I DON'T think that I have a very high tolerance for pain - it just wasn't that bad.... HOWEVER.... I did get very sore, uncomfortable / achy and tired sitting for anything more than 15-20 minutes at a time for several weeks.
I would not have been up to going to a concert - the drive, the crowds.... nope.
Please check with your dr, but personally I don't think it is a good idea.

Coming out of the closet with a question...
Everyone is different, but there is no way I could have attended a concert at 3 weeks after my TAH.
FYI, I was 28 years old, and in excellent physical condition when I had my TAH.
I was still very swollen, and VERY fatigued, at that point in my recovery. I was walking quite a bit, but sitting and/or standing long enough for a concert woud have been quite impossible. Not to mention dealing with the crowds!
I saw Toby here in Dallas in August, and it's a very energetic show! Definitely talk to your doctor, and evaluate your recovery at that point, but I wouldn't recommend getting too excited at this point. There is a good chance you won't feel up to it.
Good luck!

I think Toby is worth it
For you "old hags" who don't know who Toby is - get out there and find out. I went to see Toby in August with my parents who are 47 and 51! They bought the tickets and we went with my 11 year old nephew and we all loved it. He is handsome, outrageous, gifted, and hilarious. Check out Unleashed and Shock'n Y'all and you will hear what we are raving about.
Kelly, buy the tickets, just in case. If you don't feel up to it, I am sure you can find someone to go. If you do feel up to it, it will be worth it. It is hard to say how you will feel, but you will feel terrible if you are doing well and you don't get to go. I guess it depends on your concert venue a little, too, but you know that better than us.
The show is incredible. I was well into my bleeding and anemia at that point and I was taking three Necon and day which was making me ILL! I still had an wonderful time and yes, I was exhasted after the show. I loved the part where the band takes a break and Scotty Emerick and Toby stay behind. I had to laugh at his back-up singers/dancing girls, but hey, more power to them. Be prepared to laugh and cheer and sing along if you do get to go. I sure hope you do.

I am almost three weeks of out a TAH. Buy the tickets and have a great time. If you are like me, you will be ready for some fun after all this recovery time. You will be tired but won't it be worth it?????

Thanks everyone for the input AND the laughs! We will be taking my sons who are 10 and 7 with us. I think I will buy the tickets and (at very worst) if I am not up to going, I'll just give my ticket to my sister. I'm sure hubby would rather have me, but at least the ticket won't be wasted since she likes Toby too.
And, pasolover, I did also see Kiss and Aerosmith (my favorite!) back it August. It was awesome! My kids didn't go to that needless to say, but they REALLY want to see TK!
Thanks again to everyone!
Kelly
