incision burning sensation

I had a TAH on 12/16 and hate the burning sensation I get on the incision. I had my staples out yesterday and dr. said things look great and it's just the nerves in that area that cause it to feel that way and it'll go away in time. Anyone else have this?

Yep, I didn't have it around the incisions but had it / have it in my upper thighs and across the pubic area. Agitated nerves from going for the lymph biopsies and uterus removal. I'm just over 4 weeks post op and the thigh area is much, much better. Across the pubic area my underwear don't agitate the hair and increase the burning sensation as quickly but if I'm up for awhile and especially at leg "creases" it's bad. I was told by my doctor 9 to 12 weeks for the nerves to regenerate.

Thanks that time period is about what my doc. said too. YES the clothing just touching sometimes triggers it. UGH! Get well wishes to you!

Same annoying problem here. Sometimes I can't tolerate any clothes at all touching my stomach and I'm 2 weeks post op. It drives me crazy. Here's what helps me get more comfortable:
1) What helps the most: those blue gel cold packs you put in the freezer. I put one over my tummy on top of the sheet when I'm lying in bed. It stops the burning as soon as you feel the coolness.
2.) soft, soft soft fleece tops and pj bottoms. Sweaters that are a soft acrylic/nylon/spandex mix also work. 100% cotton is awful, too harsh.
Also silky nylon stuff. And flannel sheets. Or, I guess silk sheets if I had them, hee hee
3.) underwear that hits just right on my abdomen and isn't too tight or high cut in the legs. Bikini panties hit right at my incision, can't wear them.
4.) The last thing that seems to help is just lovingly stroking my tummy about 1-2" away from the incisions. I do this several times a day. Somehow that calms the nerve endings down. Another thing I've noticed is that they shaved the downy little hair around my navel. Maybe some of it is the surgical version of razor burn, I dunno. hope this helps.

Sisters, I've found a solution: Arnica Gel, you can get it in the health food store. Its a gentle homeopathic remedy for acute pain and swelling. I spread some over the red areas around my incision and YAY! instant relief! No itching or burning for about 3-4 hours! It feels even better if you combine it with a cold gel "ice" pack! Arnica gel comes in a tube and if I remember correctly costs about $10.
