Did anyone get hysterical the morning of their hysterectomy?
I am so worried that if/when I get the hysterectomy I will be hysterical on the way to the hospital... checking in... doing the insurance crap you have to do... and especially when I am in the gown and sitting in that room waiting to be taken in. All I can picture is me sobbing hysterically. Would they even do a hysterectomy on someone like that when it was clear they don't want it, they just have to get it?

anxiety meds
Let your doctor know of your concerns. I get panic attacks so I take alprazalom for anxiety. They had me take my meds the week prior to surgery. It was very helpful. I'll pray for you.

Yes, please talk to your doctor about this. They can give you a pill to take that morning that eases your anxiety. My mom was given one when she had to have some dental surgery, and dental surgery sure isn't as anxiety producing as a hysterectomy! It would sure be worth it to ask about that.

More than likely, your insurance paper work is going to be completed before the morning of surgery. And if you do fear you are going to be hysterical, your doctor might prescribe medication for you to take the day before and the day of surgery to keep you calm. Other women have needed to do this.
As faith53 mentioned, talk to your doctor! Your doctor can help you deal with your anxiety.

Did anyone get hysterical the morning of their hysterectomy?
I've had the same fear and I'm definitely asking for anti-anxiety meds for the few days before. Otherwise, I'll never sleep.
When I had my thyroid surgery last spring, I thought I was totally fine. On the way to the hospital I started getting panicky and then had to sit in the waiting area for about an hour. Then...the OR nurses called me back and said "your Dr's running ahead of schedule, so we have to hurry and get you prepped". They were funny and nice, but I kept thinking "well, if I wasn't nervous before, I sure am now". My BP was like 180/95 but no one, including the anesthesiologist, was worried. I think the OR staff has probably seen folks in a pretty bad state and knows how to comfort them.

Did anyone get hysterical the morning of their hysterectomy?
I struggled early on with my need for my surgery. I was numb, couldn't think, couldn't concentrate, etc.
Once I was scheduled, I was ok with 2 exceptions. One day about a month ahead I was at work discussing schedules on the phone with DH. As I mentioned Pre-op dates, he was telling me he had trials, redemptions, etc. I had already told him to play golf (competition) the day after my surgery. So I brought up the week after. I expected he would tell me his schedule was minimal. But no, he starts listing his dockets and it is apparent that the week when I was counting on him, he wouldn't be home. That scared me so bad. I couldn't stop crying. I felt so well betrayed. My mom ended up clearing her schedule for me. As an aside, once my surgery didn't go quick and easy, he did cancel his place in the golf competition.
The second time I lost it was on the way to the hospital. He was driving too fast, in my car, and I told him to slow down. I was sure he would get pulled over and I would be late for check in. I really was yelling (not my way) and told him I hated him and to just pull over and I would get out. I didn't mean it (and when I got to the room that night, that's all I remember saying to him was that I was sorry about earlier). I figure it was fear on my part. Or maybe picking a fight so if anything happened, it wouldn't hurt him a bad (yeah right like that makes sense huh?).
I thought once I got there it would be harder, but it was ok. Walking through the double doors to change was like a 2 second 'here we go' but that passed right away. Everyone was nice and even though my surgery was delayed an hour, my stress level stayed fairly low.
If you find your anxiety levels rising, you can ask and get something once you get to the hospital. You might be surprised with yourself. Many of us have talked about a relative calmness coming over us the morning of our surgeries. Not saying no anxiety but not unmanagable or as bad as we might have worried about.
Best wishes.

I think a lot of us get our anxiety out during our waiting time. I was very nervous right before, but had a peace that day (probably all those people praying for me!) I think by the time you walk through the doors of the hospital, you're ready, or at least accepting of what's going to happen. You'll be fine!

Did anyone get hysterical the morning of their hysterectomy?
When I had a colonoscopy in Oct that I was fretting over, self hypnosis and my husband reading stupid things out of a magazine helped. During the procedure breathing exercises and answering millions of questions from a helpful nurse worked. I had no sedation.
During the surgery in November which I thought would be a hysterectomy, I cried for 5 hours straight. I am the nut who hates IVs and who antianxieties don't work. It didn't matter, they did surgery anyway.
If you show up, they'll do surgery.
Best of luck to you. You'll do fine

Did anyone get hysterical the morning of their hysterectomy?
i didn't freak until i was wheeled into the OR and all those people were scurrying about. it was so loud and cold and busy. i already had something in the IV to call me down, thank goodness. my doc saw the look on my face and took my hand until i went under.
i was able to do all the paperwork several days before the surgery and checking in that morning was easy and quick.
good luck to you!

Did anyone get hysterical the morning of their hysterectomy?
The morning of my surgery, I was calm until I got to the hospital. As I was waiting for the nurse to come get me for prep, I sat there and started crying. All these emotions just took over, and I was sad, scared. The whole situation became a reality at that very moment. They gave me something in my IV that calmed me right down. I think it's just normal to be nervous before this kind of surgery. Just remember there are many women on this site that are here for you to help you get through this time.
Good Luck to you!
