Stabbing pain in side-4 wks post op

Hi fellow hystersisters!
This is my first thread...I have usually replied to others trying to help them but I'm needing your help today.
I'm in my 5 th week of post op from LAVH, removal of horrible adhesions which left my bowel bladder and uterus stuck together and removal of large area of endometriosis in the vagina. Recovery has been pretty slow due to post op infections but had begun to feel on the mend. Over the last few days have had a stabbing pain on my left side up towards the bottom of my rib cage. Feels like someone is stabbing me with a knife, anyone else had this? Maybe muscular. I see most people get pain on the right side! can I ask how much pain relief people are taking at this stage? I have tried to cut out most because the pain will warn me if I'm doing to much but maybe I should restart it?
I am going to see the doc this afternoon. I'm should be going back to work a week on tues but there's no way I will manage. I work with children with complex disabilities and it is very physical. Was hoping to be feeling so much better by now...maybe I'm just being impatient. I have 4 boys ranging from age 2-11 and can't do anything with them. I guess I'm just feeling down in the dumps today:-(

Re: Stabbing pain in side-4 wks post op

Oops sorry girls posted this in pre-op!! Not very helpful for your pre op information. Just so you know I'm still very happy to have had the operation because once all this pain is gone it will be so much better than before the op. I can't wait! All the best for you all

Re: Stabbing pain in side-4 wks post op

Hi
I have been having problems with pain in my left side up under my ribcage. It got to the point where I coudln't wear an underwired bra as it felt like it was digging in. It hurts to bend down and twist. This pain is worse than anything i had in the lower abdomen and was really puzzling me.
I just went to the surgeon this morning and he said it was most likely bruising in the muscles of the trans abdominals that cross diagonally in sheets across the stomach. Because we use these muscles all the time they are slow to recover from bruising.
I have to say, the pain is much reduced over the last few weeks as I have been avoiding using it as much as possible. I think it's one of those things that is just going to take time to heal.

Have a chat with your doctor and make sure it's nothing serious, but it may just be something you have to knock on the head with pain killers for a while.
Oh, I am at week 7 and still take nurofen to go to bed on and occasionally take paracetomol in the day, I am going to start taking more drugs to get through this muscle healing phase.

Chin up, things will get better! x

Re: Stabbing pain in side-4 wks post op

With four kids your gonna take longer to heal. Kids automatically means less down time for mom. More stress, more little emergencies, more reaching, bending and overall work.
Take what you can, but rest is best or your
healing takes longer . . .take care.

Re: Stabbing pain in side-4 wks post op

I understand completely! I have two autistic children of my own. I'm only a week postoperative and still sleeping with a heating pad. Some of the pain in my left side is from surgery and the other is from bone spurs in my left hip socket. I know this because of all the X-rays they did prior to my surgery. I had to stop the painkillers two days after coming home to care for my kids while recovering. Lots of deep breathing exercises, I tell you! Hang in there and ask for X-rays, it may help.
