Surgery Scheduler Called ME.....

I am scheduled for 2/21/13 for the da vinci hysterectomy (leaving cervix and hopefully ovaries) , this morning I received a call from the surgery scheduler which bothered me since I know I am to call her the day before.

She proceeds to apologize and tell me my surgeon, the head of da vinci surgery at the hospital, is now out for an emergency medical leave herself until May.

She is trying to find "someone else" who can do the procedure within the next week or so...even tried to push the date up a day. Then she says "well....you have to meet him, can you come up here today?" NO....I can't since I have to work and not only that I have a meeting with my boss and HR today regarding what will happen around here in my absence.

This just screwed me up. Just when I was ready. Now...who is this someone else? My Dr. and I are close, we hug now, we've been through quite a bit so this is just jarring.

This throws off everything, hubby, mom, sister all taking days off of work to help me. I am beyond upset. While at the same time I am concerned for my Dr. and her health. WOW.

Has anyone else had to change Dr's this close to your procedure...any advice? I mean I can't wait until May and yet I don't want just anyone cutting on me.

Re: Surgery Scheduler Called ME.....

I would say that before any decisions are made, you should probably meet the other dr. Especially if this new dr is the only choice you have if you want surgery before May. Because of this new change, the meeting you have with your boss and hr is kind of moot if dates are going to change. I think the boss would understand if you pushed the meeting back a few hours to meet with the other dr. Just a thought. Let us know how it goes

Re: Surgery Scheduler Called ME.....

You might want to meet the new doctor before you cancel. I would think your original doc would leave you in good hands.
