Ready for pain to stop but scared too.

I'm having my hysterectomy in a little more than 2 weeks. I'm used to pain so I'm not worried about that. I'm really scared of the emotional side. My husband and I are not able to have kids because of my severe endo. I'm worried about how to deal with the sadness and loss. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

I would grieve it like any loss. It's a big deal and if it is really hard do see a therapist for help. There are books on grieving that may help. Hugs. .

Re: Ready for pain to stop but scared too.

Allow yourself time. Feel each feeling, write about it. Do not beat yourself up for any feeling you have good or bad. Talk to people, but do not let people tell you to just get over it when you feel you are not ready to. Everyone heals in their own time, and it is not something that you can just forget about with out working through the feelings. Having your husband there will be great support but remember he has to do his own grieving too.

Re: Ready for pain to stop but scared too.

Hi MrsWood,

I was unable to have children as well. I mourned the loss of my uterus even at 45. I was still holding out hope for a miracle, but for me, it just wasn't meant to be. You may want to post your feelings about loss in our "Aching Hearts" forum. You will see that a lot of members have felt the way that you do.

You say you are having your hysterectomy for severe endometriosis. I just want to make sure you know that a hysterectomy is not a cure for endometriosis, and that some women still suffer from endo after their hysterectomies. Have you tried other methods of treating your endo that may save your fertility? Several of our members have conceived despite the fact that they had severe endo. Here is a link to our endometriosis articles. There is a lot of useful information there about treatments and alternatives. You may also want to consult an endometriosis specialist before you have a hysterectomy is if you have not already done so. Members here have found that excision of all endometrial implants is the only way to get rid of endometriosis. Most ordinary gynecologists just aren't equipped to do that kind of excision. Finally, you may want to look at and post in our endometriosis forum. You'll see that other members have been where you are, and you certainly won't feel alone.

Thank you. My husband is amazing and very supportive. He just wants me to be healthy and a full hysterectomy is really the only way. We talk about it a lot and I want to make sure he tells me his feelings too. It's his loss as well.

Thank you for your kind words. I'm 32 and have been struggling with severe endo since I was 20 or so. It's been such a long tough road. It's a long story and I don't want to bore you. did you have a total hysterectomy? I have to because my endo is so severe and my tubes are shot. I get bad cysts too. I have 5 close people in my life pregnant and I'm struggling with how to react around them. They try to support me but it usually ends up me listening to them talk about babies. Does it ever get easier??
