Symptoms improve by losing weight?

Has anyone had any experience of losing weight a stone or more, and noticing any improvement in their fibroid symptoms?

Re: Symptoms improve by losing weight?

I actually have a 12cm penduculated fibroid (outside uterus) and scheduled for surgery 9/22. I love to walk and I have noticed that when I walk and lose a few pounds or just walk I feel much better. It may be that my fibroid is large and taking up a lot of room so when I lose weight I have more room for everything.

Re: Symptoms improve by losing weight?

Not in my case. I lost 30 lbs in the year and half before surgery and my symptoms got steadily worse because the fibroids decided to go on a growth splurge. As to symptoms, I really only had the non-existant bladder capacity and the extended stomach. The weight loss actually helped me find the fibroids as I couldn't figure out why I still had a tummy after losing the weight. My bladder is totally back to normal after the surgery. I hope this helps.

Re: Symptoms improve by losing weight?

Hi again Danni,

That is most interesting. I am overweight but feel that my tummy is disproportionately large. I've probably put on a stone in the last 12 months and wondered if this had aggravated my symptoms. I'm about 13 stone now and can't really tell where my fibroids are.

Re: Symptoms improve by losing weight?

If you lie on your back, can you feel something hard at the base of your tummy? That is your uterus and fibroids. I originally felt something hard about the size of a baseball and that is why I went to see the doctor. After 5 months of waiting for appointments, second consultations and the surgery, my uterus had grown to the size of a volleyball (It reached up to my belly button). It was 20 x 18 cm when they took it out. The strange thing is that I thought I would feel a huge difference inside me when you take something that huge out but I didn't feel anything different. My tummy was much flatter but I didn't feel empty or anything, unlike I did after I had my daughter.
