Surgery and Acrylic Nails

I have had acrylic on my nails for 3 1/2 years. What is the story about acrylic nails and surgery? Will I need to take them off? Or can I keep them on and just go without polish on them? I know that this is something that I can ask at my pre-op appointment, but I just wanted to know what others had found to be the case!

Any information would be helpful.

Also, where do I post my surgery date? I want to be sure that all my new HysterSister friends are thinking and praying for me!

This website is the best!

hello

as far as acrylic nails go, i believe this is something you're going to have to ask when you do your pre-op (or before) as all hospitals dont have the same requirements..a friend of mine just had GYN surgery and nothing was said about her acrylics................about adding your date, click on "control panel" at the top of the page and go from there.........stay well....*diana*

(((((Sunnyskies)))))))))),

You will have to ask at your pre op about the nails all dr.s and hospitals have their own rules. Some allow them some don't.

To add your surgery date :

( top of any page) click control panel> edit profile> scroll to surgery date and enter it> scroll to *submit modifications * click it. Thats all

Best wishes,

I also have acrylics. When I had my last surgery 2 years ago (Thyroid)... I had them and I only had on clear polish.

Their thing is to be able to see to your nail bed. I just had the clear acrylic (The one that looks like glass) put on my nails so that the Dr.'s can see my nail bed better. I am going to have them cut down a bit so that they can put that little thingy on my finger.

Double check with your doctor. Every one will have something different to say.

My hospital allowed acrylics and polish. I didnt have to remove either. Somehow the machines they have can detect right thru polish now.

Like the others said. It depends on the hospital. Offer to let them put it on your toe (thats what they did to me. lol)
