Having a Hysterectomy

Hi, I am new to this site. It was recommended to me, as I am having a large mass removed from my ovary, and my doctor wants to go ahead and do a hysterectomy at the same time. I am 43, and cannot have children because I am infertile. I am wondering if I am making the right choice allowing him to do the hysterectomy? I am concerned about recovery time, going into menopause, and Im a bit scared as at this point they dont know if the mass is cancerous or not. Any help, questions I should be asking my doctor, would be appreciated. Im a wreck here, and noone around me seems to be of any help!!! Thanks for listening to me..your site is wonderful by the way, Ive enjoyed reading so many of the posts. I dont understand some of the terminology, but I am sure I will in time.

Having a Hysterectomy

Dear Barb,

This is major surgery, and it's in your best interest to get more than one medical opinion.

85% of hysterectomies are *elective* surgery, done for quality of life issues, not to save a life. A 2nd and 3rd opinion can help you in getting smart about your symptoms and your options.

Good luck on making the best decision for YOU

Sending cyberhugs,
