uterine prolapse, endo returning, is it hyster time?

My doc recommended hyster for prolapsed uterus, and for returning endo symptoms. I had a laperotomy and laperoscopy to remove enodometrial cysts about 8 years ago, underwent hormone therapy and subsequently got pregnant. I went on the pill after birth and stopped about 6 months ago, and endo symptoms have returned. My question is, what should I do to make sure the endo dosen't come back? Will removing both ovaries take care of it? What do I need to do to make sure the bladder is properly suspended and the vaginal vault dosen't collapse? I'd appreciate it if you could recommend further resources or suggest questions to ask my doctor.

Hi Noel,

I had TVH in April '99 for uterine prolapse.

If you choose to have a hysterectomy, the doc will assess the pelvic vault & make corrections if needed during the surgery.

It sounds like you would benefit from research (on this website & on the internet) of endo, prolapse, and kegel exercises

Feel free to email or IM any time. Get smart about your symptoms and your options and make the best choice for YOU.

Sending cyberhugs,

Hiya..

I can't speak to the prolapse problem, but I can definately speak to the endo problem. Endometriosis never truly goes away - it may shrink to a microscopic level and then cause no pain, but it will never go away. I've had endo for more than 20 years, and it's horrible. It's been a life altering thing for me. Unfortunately, BCP's did not control my pain. I tried everything. I personally think that you should try every alternative to control endo before having your ovaries removed. There are many, and I can tell you my experience with most of them and give you some resources to read/investigate. If you have your choice of going back on BCP's or having your ovaries removed, I'd go back on the BCP's. If that controls your pain, then I'd go that route. That's just my opinion. You, of course, have to make up your own mind - I'll list some links here with more information, and then you decide what is best for you:
