Hysterectomy tomorrow 5/1: Has anyone taken Fentanyl or Toradol after surgery?

My surgery is tomorrow. I discussed my pain med options with the anesthesiologist at my pre-op because I'm allergic to morphine and reactive with percocet and oxycodone.

He suggested Fentanyl while I'm in hospital (pump) and Toradol for home.

Has anyone taken these? Can you tell me if they are effective and if you had any side-effects? One concern I have is with the Toradol. I've been reading up on it and everything says you shouldn't take for longer than 5 days. Has anyone taken it for longer?

thanks for any replies

Re: Has anyone taken Fentanyl or Toradol after surgery?

Toradol's an NSAID, like ibuprofen but stronger. You may be able to switch to ibuprofen after five days at home - or even before.

I had Dilaudid until first thing in the morning of the third day after surgery. After that I did fine on OTC "extra strength" ibuprofen (400 mg). If the ibuprofen alone doesn't cut it for you, you can try alternating it with acetaminophen (Tylenol, paracetamol) every three hours, since acetaminophen's not an NSAID and is metabolized differently by the body.

Re: Has anyone taken Fentanyl or Toradol after surgery?

I had toradol and Tylenol in my iv at the hospital. It was really great, I had no pain, only problem was all the meds without eating had me slightly nauseated, but I ate a muffin and that feeling stopped. After they took it out, in the middle of the night day of surgery, I didn't need anything at all, although they sent me home with a script for Tylenol with codeine
