Hospital stay for TVH?

My doctor said I would probably spend one night and then go home. Does this sound about right for a TVH? I know I won't have an incision to deal with, but that sounds kind of rushed. I don't want to come home if I have a catheter. But I'm worried that insurance won't let me have more than one night.

Also the nurse at the urologist's office said to expect 1-2 days (I'm also having a TVT). But on its own, that would be an outpatient surgery, so I know that won't add to my stay.

Any thoughts, suggestions are welcome. I have my pre-op consultation with my gynecologist Monday.

Hospital stay for TVH?

Every doctor has their own ideas of recovery time as inpatient. I have seen several sisters who were told a day or two stay. I am sure they will respond with more detailed information for you.

But remember everyone is different in healing process and some do require longer periods of time.

Hospital stay for TVH?

I had my TVH/BSO at 7:30 am on a Tuesday and was discharged at 10 am that Thursday (2-night stay). Although I was feeling pretty good by Wednesday afternoon...I am thankful for the 2nd night, as the nurses could monitor the pain meds for me.

Hospital stay for TVH?

I had my TVH on a Monday at 11:30 and was discharged the next day at 2pm.

They send you home with the same pain pills they give you in the hospital after they stop giving you the good shots.

They will keep you longer if you are having problems. The cath was removed just a few hours after surgery and they have you up and walking.

I previously had my gallbladder removed and that recovery hurt. This is a walk in the park compared to having your gut cut open!!

Please don't stress over your discharge time/date. If it is medically necessary for you to stay the Dr. will record it and your insurance had to pay.

Best of luck to you!!!!!

Hospital stay for TVH?

Hello, I just had a TVH with a TVTO and bladder sling. I went in early Weds. morning and came home late Thursday night. They almost kept me another night because of low hematocrit/hemoglobin and a spinal headache caused by the epidural but I told my GYN I was feeling better and wanted to go home so he let me. I really did sleep much bettter in my own bed. My nurses were very nice, by the way. I just don't like being in hospitals and would rather be home. I have also had to "self-cath" at home since I was still having too much residual urine left after voiding. However, I was told I could stop it when it became less than 100cc's. It is less and I have stopped it but now I have a UTI so there are pluses and minuses. If you have complications, they are more likely to keep you and I could easily have stayed another day but I'm glad I didn't.

Hospital stay for TVH?

When the person from pre-registration at my hospital called me, he said that I was scheduled to go home THE SAME DAY!!! after a TVH. I about came unglued. You mean several of my body parts are being removed and my insurance wants to ship me home the same day???? Granted, my surgery is at 5 a.m., I'm a positive thinker and a wimp by no means.... but I'm with you, I just don't know how I'll be feeling, and I'd be much more reassured having hospital staff nearby if there were any problems.

Anyway, my surgery is planned this Wednesday, June 22, and I plan on playing it by ear. If I feel horrible and need a week by golly (lol), I plan on letting the dr. know it, and the insurance can just fork it over till I can get around on my own. I don't mind paying the balance for an extra day or two if needed.

I wish you luck, and I can definetly relate to your concern.

Hospital stay for TVH?

All doctors are different. My surgery was at noon on a Friday and I went home on Sunday around 5:30. I had TVH, A/P repairs, and TVT. I was told to expect to stay 36 hours following surgery.

Hospital stay for TVH?

Thank you so much, everyone--you all are wonderful sisters! This is very helpful and encouraging. I haven't stayed at a hospital in over 20 years. Last time I did, they treated me just like a princess and I almost didn't want to go. That was the same hospital, same doctor, but insurance was different in those days.

I'm optimistic that things will go all right, as you all said. Thanks for your encouragement!

Hospital stay for TVH?

My surgery was at 7:30AM on a Thursday, and on Friday late afternoon, my doctor gave me the option of going home or staying another night. I chose the one more night and was home by 11:00am on Saturday. But, I knew going in that I would be going home with a catheter and wanted to feel comfortable with managing it before leaving. (I was kept in bed until Friday morning.)

Also, my insurance initially gave me one night, but the doctors worked their magic and got me the extra night. I am glad I stayed, but was really ready to get home on Saturday morning.
