Surgery this Friday! Hoping for the best...

Hi Everyone! I've been reading and posting on these boards for about a month and now I'm less than 2 days from the big day. I'm having a LAVH with A&P repairs for my various issues (grade II uterine prolapse, gusher periods from hell, grade II cystocele and grade I rectocele.) I also have PCOS and I know a hysterectomy will not cure me of that condition, it is a prevalent factor in my gynecological problems. I'm 38 years old and even with the PCOS, my Dr has suggested I keep at least one ovary for the hormones, IF they appear healthy. I do not have family risk factors for the female cancers, but he said if I wanted the ovaries removed he would do so. I've flipped back and forth on the decision, but have finally decided to try to keep at least one ovary if at all possible. In the event I MUST have them both removed, I feel I've researched HRT enough that I'm ok with it should I need to go that route. I just hope I'm making the right choice... I have had cyst problems in the past that cause pain, so I'm not 100% sure of my decision to keep the beastly things.

On one hand I just want it over with already... but then I'm I little worried too about the recovery. Worried about the BMs and peeing after the cystocele/rectocele repairs. (Don't want to go home with a cath I hope!) Mostly about how my sex life will be affected down the long haul. I hope to post soon after my surgery and hospitalization, but we'll see how much I'm up for and when. Anyway... wish me luck!

Re: Surgery this Friday! Hoping for the best...

Hi there! I wish you all the luck in the world and am sending you hugs, love and light! I had both ovaries removed and menopause hasn't been too bad. So far, no HRT.

Keep in mind that many women experience their ovaries "going to sleep" so you may feel the full effects at first until the one you have left wakes up. I'm sure some others will be along soon with more insight on that.

If you are up to it, come to the Pre-op chat tomorrow night. You will meet others who are waiting for their surgeries and those who have already been through it. It's a great way to ask questions and receive support!

Best wishes to you!!!
