Pre-op nervousness

I am scheduled for surgery on the 25th (2 weeks from tomorrow) and was just scheduled on Thursday. I mentally understand that surgery is necessary, but I am very nervous. I do not know what to prepare, what to leave for other people to do, how I am going to be afterwards and for how long?? Lots of questions and I do not feel I can find the answers or if there are answers to the questions in my head...

Any suggestions....

Pre-op Nervousness

Hi DebiLee,
I understand you nervousness and you came to the right place. I've only been a sister for a month now but have learned so much and felt so loved that I know that if you just keep asking questions and looking up info you'll calm down a bit. I have some anxiety at times myself but know that this is for the best. The closer it gets to the surgery date the more stressed I think we get . Just as sny questions you feel you need to be more at ease (here there are no silly questions) This site is a Godsend for me and I believe many other women. welcome to the family and many s to you!!!
This is just my opinion & shouldn't take the place of your physician : )

Pre-op nervousness

Hi DebiLee

It's kind of overwhelming, isn't it? That's definitely how I felt. Luckily you've stumbled upon the greatest resource for hysterectomy information and support that I've found - there are pull down menu's on the main page covering just about everything from questions to ask, things to pack, how to prepare for when you're home, etc. You've found the message boards which are invaluable for getting info and personal stories. I felt so educated going into the surgery that it helped me regain a sense of control over what was happening - and that did wonderful things for lowering my stress level. Are there specific things that are worrying you at this point, or is it more a general anxiety about the whole shebang?

I can only speak for myself, but having this surgery was hands down the best thing I ever did for myself and my quality of life. It was far easier than I ever allowed myself to hope, and I have the rest of my life to look forward to without pain!

Had it not been for this site, my attitude would have been quite different going in to this surgery and I'm certain I'd never have done as well as I have without it. You've come to the right place!!

Best of luck to you DebiLee!

Heidi

Pre-op nervousness

Everything you're feeling is perfectly normal. I was definitely you prior to my surgery too. I became absolutely addicted to this site pre-op. From Nov until my surgery on 1/10 checking new posts was practically all I did at work (I was so pre-occupied with this surgery).

This site is absolutely the best thing you can do for yourself. These ladies are wonderful and you will be armed with info when you go to surgery.

I would read over and over on this site..."the waiting is the hardest part". I would tear up everytime I heard that thinking..."but you don't know me, I don't think I can handle this..."

I have to admit, it definitely was harder to wait than to go through the surgery. It really was not near what I thought it would be, but I truly believe the knowledge this site gave me is what helped me through.

Check out the post op board as well. That helped me even more to read those posts prior to surgery to prepare myself.

We will be thinking of you!
