any connection?

Has anyone had really high blood pressure after surgery? I'm 17 days post op and my blood pressure is very high. I used a machine at the pharmacy yesterday and it was 155/98. Called my OB/GYN and they told me to talk to my family practice doctor. Saw him yesterday at which point it was up to 186/98. He's doing a bunch of blood work and has put me on Atenolol. I go back to see him in 2 weeks. Anyone else have this?
thanks,
Carolyn

Hi Carolyn, I didn't have any BP issues after my surgery. Hopefully the doctor will be able to find a cause for you and help get it straightened out.
Maybe someone else will be along that can help you with something they went through.
Take care, and let us know what you find out.

any connection?

I had that problem before my surgery. I had to go to my regular doctor and have it checked and get a clearance before I could have surgery. My regular doctor said it's borderline but he couldn't treat it YET. I have always had low blood pressure so this business really surprised me. I have to go back and have it checked again to make sure all is still well.

Did you have your ovaries out? Are you on HRT?

Make sure that the doctor takes that into account. Sometimes hormonal changes after oophorectomy (or just ovarian shock) can lead to blood pressure changes.

Take care.

Some people, Like me for instant. When you go through something major like this typeof op. Maybe emotionally your body might be making your BP go wild for a while too.
I'm sure the doc will keep an eye on it though.

any connection?

I have had high blood pressure for over 2 years now and have been on Avapro for it. After my TAH I had the opposite. My BP was so low they couldn't even give me my BP medicine while I was in the hospital. I am back to taking it now, but I have to check my BP before I take it and if it is below 120/80 I'm not suppose to take it because it could cause it to bottom out. So some days I can't take it. Anyway I hope your DR finds out what is causing your's and can get you straightened out.

Good luck and 'S

any connection?

First of all I have "white coat syndrome" so it's really hard for a doctor to get a true reading of my bp. I have severe anxiety and panic attacks at the thought of going to a doctor so when I'm actually there...

Anyway, before my hyst my bp went from being low to high 160s/100s. I have been told the stress and pain from nonstop bleeding was causing this. In the castle I thought my bp was really weird but no one ever said anything and I was discharged with 155/40. Again could of been the stress of surgery, pain meds, anxiety. I'm now 6 mos. post and I check my bp at least once a week at Walmart, the pharmacy, grocery or wherever I run across one of those machines and the highest it's been is 131/80, normally about 115/65 BUT at the doctor's office it is still 140/90 or higher (and that's even after taking xanex to get me there!)

Stress, anxiety, pain can all do a lot to us!

Cindy
