"Unofficial bowel prep"

Well, I met with the surgeon who will be taking the place of my regular doctor who has been placed on indefinite leave. While I'm still very sad not to have my very trusted and beloved doctor, I am trying to accept things as they are and be optimistic. The "new" surgeon was very accommodating when we talked yesterday, and went out of his way to reassure me since he knew I was shaken by recent events with my own doctor.

Anyway, he said I won't need to do an "official" bowel prep (YAY!), but he did want me to clean out in the day or two beforehand. He suggested Milk of Magnesia for two days prior to surgery, but I'm wondering if a Fleet enema the day before might not be better. I've never done either (although I have done a Citrate of Magnesia bowel prep), and I'm just trying to find the easiest and least inconvenient way to accomplish what needs to be done. I've seen some of you post about enemas and others about Dulcolax suppositories. I'm sure it won't make a difference which I use since he just wants to be certain I'm not constipated, so I'm looking to you ladies for advice. Obviously I'm not going to go the Citrate route since I don't have to!

Thanks!

Susan, I'm so glad you gave this surgeon a chance. He sounds like he cares about the whole person and I'm sure you will end up happy with him.

Although I had to do the Nulytely bowel prep, I also had to take 4 Ducolax laxatives the night before I started the other stuff. That itself cleaned me out but was pretty gentle.

Cheers,
Gale

Thanks for your reply, Gale. If you don't mind me asking, how long did it take for the Dulcolax to work? Did it kick in during the night or when you woke up in the morning?

Thanks!

Susan, I am glad that this doctor has been kind to you and that your surgery hasn't been delayed. I am also glad that you have settled down a bit and come to term with events.

Now is the time to focus on yourself.

God bless, will be thinking and praying for you.
