I need help, it's been one week

It's been one week since my hysterectomy. They took out my uterus. I need to know how long the pain will last. I have extreme pain at the insicion sight . My doctor wanted to lower my pain meds already, like he thinks I should be feeling much better by now. Yet he told me it is a 6 week recovery period. The only time I feel sort of OK is when I take the pain medicine (percocet) I don't abuse the medicine I take it because other wise I hurt so much. I wake up at about 3 a.m. every morning crying because of the pain. Is this normal. I feel like a nuisence if I call the Doctor. Is it normal to still feel this kind of pain? Thank you for any answers or support you could give me.

I took my pain meds on a four hour schedule. You need to "get ahead of the pain." I actually wrote down a schedule and followed it. Put a check mark next to the time after you take the meds. You need the medication now. After about 2 weeks I was only taking Ibuprofen. The percocet may cause constipation so that is why I only took Ibuprofen.
I hope this helps.

I need help, it's been one week

On Thursday I will be one week post op. I still have pain also. I agree with CJL. You need to get ahead of the pain. Make a schedule and take them even if it doesn't hurt at that time. If you let it go till you have pain then it takes longer for it to work. I take mine around the clock. My pain is there but tolorable. I haven't had to cry because of the pain. I doesn't hurt to try it this way. Hope it helps. Did you have your staples removed yet?? I had mine removed yesterday and a lot of the incision pain has subsided.

It does hurt a lot at the beginning. Please talk to your doc, or your pharmacist. You might be able to supplement over the counter pain relief meds with your prescription. I was told to alternate certain types so I was on a schedule with the prescription, then two hours later the OTC, then 2 hours later the prescription-etc. You just have to make sure you talk to a professional to find out which ones are in the correct category so you don't get too much of one drug in a 24 hour period. The doc's nurse was also helpful with this.

The other thing was drinking lots of water(helps tissues in healing) and walking around the house 20 minutes or so every two hours. Resting with your feet up was helpful too.

Please don't worry about calling your doctor. If it is really painful, they might want to look at everything to see if something is going on that needs medical attention. Meanwhile we are here for you. 's
